Droid Prime in October for Verizon

This wouldn't be the first time Verizon debuted a new version of Android. They were the first to debut Android 2.0 and 3.0.

Another thing I stand corrected on. forgive I came to android in June so didn't really know much about it till then... It was the first then the Milestone but the Nexus1 came first with what we know to be the Eclair of today 2.1 then Froyo then 2.3 with the NS so even though they were first at that time in 09, Google has had there new updated OS on their phone first. And from what it remember reading , the Nexus1 was suppose to come out way before it did. So maybe they didnt want to delay Moto and verizons release and allowed them to come out with 2.0 then update that to 2.0 with new changes and release it on the N1..

This is what I'm thinking. People are saying it can't be a true Google nexus if it is not called a nexus. If it's not called a nexus then Verizon will mess with it. Look at the Xoom. Pure Google device not called a nexus on Verizon no bloat and the updates come to the Xoom before other android tabs. We could have a device like the Xoom and og Droid on our hands. I just want an bootloader we can unlock. That's all that matters here. If we have that then we can kill the bloat and get the updates soon as source is out.

After all this I am totally confused. It is pretty much confirmed that Verizon is releasing a new flagship device named the "Droid-Prime", and will come with Android 4.0 "Ice Cream"

But since this does not have the key word "Nexus" in the name, will it still be an untouched pure Android experience with zero bloatware, etc... ?

And then what about us on T-Mobile, the original "nexus" carrier, I would expect a new nexus this December like T-Mo has been releasing all the way back since 2009. Is T-Mobile getting the Nexus-Three or Nexus-S II this Fall ? T-Mobile deserves the first crack at a new Nexus device, they have been releasing that brand since they started, if T-Mo gets the shaft over Verizon, that would be like ATT not getting the iPhone5 this Fall.

I suggest you read the thread again. Pay close attention to the words "DROID" and "not a".

Your constant "Tmobile deserves...." and "....it's like ATT not getting the iphone..." is getting really annoying. Seriously, move on.

That is the news I was hoping for! Due for an upgrade in Spetember, I think I can wait another month...

@tntdroid.. the Xoom I thought was to be the Nexus of Tablets no? Like the OGDroid b4 the Nexus came out. I do agree that this Droid Prime can be a pure Google phone or if its unlocked then it wouldn't matter because it can all be removed. But I don't think that this will be the Nexus Prime renamed. I Could be wrong lol wouldn't be the first time ,but after building a brand name for a phone I can't see why they would just go and change it. Or allow carriers to put their own branding to the phone. And the name is not what really matters. It's what renaming it represents. Carrier preference and Ownership. IMO . I do hope that this is a true and beast of a phone to show the power of android and ICS but also hope its not the Nexus Prime renamed...

Changing the name has no effect on the software. If it were to be marketed under a different name but without bloatware, it would only break the naming scheme. That being said, I'd still consider it "pure." Maybe not in name but certainly in function, and that's quite alright with me.

A "pure" Android experience on Verizon? Yeah that'll be the day.

What about the OG droid? And did everyone forget about the xperia play? That runs stock android too. Okay, well these devices don't have the full Google experience but they do run stock android.

I agree no company deserves anything but the world uses GSM so there is a very high chance that it will be on t-mobile. I'm just hoping that the GSM version works on both At&t and T-Mobile 3g.I wanna say pentaband but I don't really know too much about the radios to know if that's the correct term.

Please Google, simultaneous launch on all four carriers!

Silly Earthlings. I am Nexus Prime and not only am I coming soon, its a return trip!!

Ok, what the community cares about and what the general public cares about are two completely different things.

The OEMs and the carriers really don't care what the community wants. Phone nerds probably represent 1% of the buying market. In three months I think I've seen one person walk into the 5 stores I work in that was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about phones like we are.

Nexus phones are BORING and are hard to sell because they are BORING. Try to pitch the average person on the benefits of a pure Google phone and watch their eyes glaze over while they pretend to care what you're talking about. Try to get them to recognize how smooth phone A is over phone B and listen to them say, "I don't see it".

That's who the carriers care about. Pure Google has next to ZERO wow-factor, and hopefully Google has recognized this and will let Verizon and Samsung put out the first ICS phone as the Droid Prime. Google and Samsung want Apple bad now. Verizon wants mega-phones to battle it out while they sit back and watch the activations go up and up and up. A Nexus phone will not do that, unless ICS is something amazingly beyond belief, which I don't think Google is capable of. Google is hip, but they're not cool. Their mentality is too under-the-radar-ish.
Google and Verizon understand that Samsung is the top dog in the Android world. Samsung knows how to whip something together that most people will want to buy.

Everybody has to start understanding this about their beloved devices. Who cares about bloat, this, that and the other thing? Root the phone and flash the ROM if it's that big of a deal. That's half the fun!!! There's nothing but my limited understanding of the inner workings of Android that's keeping me from turning my phone into what ever I want to. And don't argue that "I shouldn't have to blah blah blah..." Then why are there people rooting and flashing on Nexus phones?

PS: Speaking of bloatware, we don't know how super powerful and amazing ICS is going to be. I doubt any amount of bloat could hurt this phone.

Just read this on BGR;

The Droid Prime is no Nexus..it is simply Verizons and only Verizons flagship ICS phone, but lets get it straight it is NOT a Nexus. Google will do their own outing of the Nexus-3. Maybe the Samsung I9250 a 4.65" Super Amoled HD ICS device might turn out to be the real new Nexus-3 that will be released to Tmo, Sprint and Att. Or as i have always thought...HTC might be the sleeper OEM to give us an N1 type on steroids Nexus 3. Either way it shakes out...Google has something special in-store for us all vanilla android lovers, and it's not a Droid.

Please quit spamming the board with the same post. It's juvenile.

Yes Zorachus.. We got it , saw it and read it b4 ... I'm not perfect but it would be nice to read a thread a few pages back if its to many pages long to at least catch up to the most current topics... Do you work for BGR? lol

Funny, my OG Droid didn't come with VZW software like Vcast, although it did have the Droid sounds and possibly wallpapers. Same as the Xoom, stock Android on VZW without the bloat. I'd rather have a new Nexus, but I'll be happy with a Droid that's stock ICS.

Hmm My OG came with Google apps like Gmail, Calendar, Search, Maps, Market and I guess Youtube, no problem with this on it, but it also came with Facebook, Twitter, Visual VM(this is a Vcast app that i have never used), Voice Dialer, and Voice Search. I have never installed any of these things on the phone...it arrived with them so even 2 years ago extra apps were on the phone that cannot be removed through the regular uninstall process.

I've been running the stock launcher until I switched to another one from the market. The stock IS boring compared to the new launcher and I can see how the general public would not like it compared to other current phones.

I decided to wait until the end of the year before moving to a new phone so maybe I have a shot at this Droid Prime.

I wouldn't be surprised if all four carriers get a Nexus Prime, but like the Galaxy S, they are all branded differently. So we get the Droid Prime, and maybe a "Evo" Prime, a "MyTouch" Prime, and "Whatever AT&T calls it" Prime. Or I could be totally wrong, I really don't care what it's called as long as it's stock and isn't filled with irremovable bloatware.

Evo and MyTouch are only for HTC phones.

I've said it before and many times: the difference between a stock android phone and a nexus phone is a big deal. Great example: T-mobile G2. Ran 'stock' but wasn't updated for a long time after Gingerbread came out and was not even one of the first to get the Gingerbread update. The appeal of going Nexus is the updates. If the Prime is not a Nexus device, I see no added benefit to purchasing it.
