Droid Pro is NOT a BlackBerry killer

Blackberry Killer??? I don't think so!

I have been a BB user for the last 6 years and while I like, I wish it would do more. When I saw the Droid Pro, my first impression was "this is it!". Boy, was I in for a shock.

The email client and motoblur software is the biggest joke. It does not sync with exchange; emails show up late or not at all. (check droid forums).

The battery lasts only 4-5 hours with moderate use. When I asked about it, they told me to buy the extended battery. Really, that is your solution?

The keyboard is so small and cramped you can't text or email easily. The phone is top heavy.

BLACKBERRY KILLER, IT IS NOT!

BlackBerry will never die because of one other device... The biggest customer of RIM is the US government... Look at how long it takes Congress to do anything, you want to change there mobile devices? That would not be an easy feat.

Government BlackBerrys

Well the being the President of the US has certain rules as far as personal and government information. But the key point of you statement is that yes I do remember the problem with Obama trying to keep his BlackBerry. Before Obama was the President he was a Senator which is why he had that BlackBerry. All Congress members and most staffers are carrying government issues and pair for BlackBerrys....

Love my Pro, I run a business with it and have close to 1500 customers. It keeps me in touch and on schedule. I bought the extended battery so I am ready for just about anything that comes along. And my contacts and calendar sync with gmail to my Galaxy Tab so I have a great mobile office.

I thought the government couldn't use them. Remember the hoopla around Obama for wanting to keep his?

FYI, the reason the President had trouble getting his BB was due to the fact that all of the President's written communication while in office is permenent record. BB exchange is encripted to NSA level encription so it wouldn't be for security reasons.

Android's Pro is an obvious attempt to draw BB users into the droid market...complete with zillions of free apps (BB's apps all cost, right? Just like iPhone's?) That right there is a no-brainer. But still, it's just a phone with a solid qwerty at the bottom, mimicking most BB phones' appearance. If the phone's physical layout is all that holds a captive audience, then yes, BB may crubmble, but I highly doubt that's it. BB will always be a fashion statement thing. Droid will, for a while, be viewed as some cutting edge thing that tech geeks are into. I like Droid, but I'm in no way a tech geek, I'm a country boy. I've just done my research. Largely, the general public follows trends, not logical facts. BB will hold its own.

I've owned at least four different BBs over the years including both the Storm and Tour. I've also owned an Incredible and now own the Pro. In my experience with all of the above, the Pro is hands down, the best. The battery far exceeds the Storm and Incredible for and is nearly as good as the Tour. I am a moderate user and easily make it through a day with the Pro. I needed the extended battery to do the same with the Storm and Incredible and I barely made it with the Tour.

The keyboard is smaller and not naturally curved but I managed to adjust. The curve was a faster keyboard for me but I would not even consider going back. The Pro keyboard is adequate and several steps above any touchscreen device.

Exchange syncs flawlessly and the interface is a refreshing change from the Incredible. All in all, I am extremely pleased. I also save an additional $20 per month without BES and notice no difference in performance? Perhaps not a platform killer but it did it for me.
