I do no thave text messaging with verizon, so I wanted to use Google Voice on my RAZR, and use the text application. Even though I do not have text messaging, and it will not allow me, If I text trhoguh google voice app, verizon charges me a text message fee for every text sent or recived.

I upgraded from a real old Droid Eris phone were this functionality worked great., and free!)

Does any one else have this issue?

How could you have a smart phone on VZW and not have to pay for a data plan (which incudes text messaging)?

Have you changed any setting in the app or on the desktop? It could be forwarding the texts to your vzw number. I've used gv on my razr an haven't had a problem.

Texts are not included in the data plan. Depending on your mobile plan, it may be included. That is why Google and Apple both have texting alternatives that work off Internet.

There is an option in Google Voice to receive text messages...

Normal Google voice messaging uses data, however, there is also an option to send the messages to the associated phone VIA text message... I am assuming this is checked and that is why you are getting the messages VIA text and being charged for them.

Call Verizon and have them block texts. Its a free option
Then Go into google voice settings->sync and notification->receive text messages
Set that to "only via the Google voice app"

This is exactly what I have and I have not had any issues.
