I can't say it was not done at the Verizon store but he is 73 and I was showing him how to us some of the apps on the phone he had just took it out of the box the day before I got there from IL. and of course me I spent my spare time trying to figure out what was different, checking app and widgets and setting but could find nothing also after you put your thumb and the lock button it does this and you can swipe and when you remove thumb it goes to normal screen. .IMG_20151004_095508975[1].jpg

Yes, somehow a third party lockscreen app got installed. I don't know them well enough to be able to recognize from the photos. However, you can go into the Play Store app on his phone, tap the menu control top left and go to my apps, and look at the list of installed apps. Hopefully the culprit will be obvious by name from the list. You can tap it to get a button to uninstall and then it will go back to normal.

From the look of the home screen he definitely has a number of apps that are not part of OEM package, ie flixter, yahoo, stocks, flashlight, ESPN. They were all probably ported over by Verizon from his old phone, or a Verizon rep's idea of "essential apps". The lock screen app looks interesting, as doogald said, it will be found on google play or in apps setting under downloaded programs. Let us know the name.

I will keep looking, he is in CA. and I in IL. I found a app called cover that puts up 6 links on the side but that is it, I was wondering if it is because mine is a year old and he just got his and the newer ones my be OEM with apps like flixter . Thanks for replies and I will try to have him look at his apps but I am afraid it will be like trying to repair a computer over the phone. I will repost if I find the reason.
