Droid Stutter?

So I am going to buy a Droid. I went into the Verizon store for a little while to get a little bit of perspective and hands on time with the phone. One thing I noticed is that transitions didn't seemed to be very smooth. Played with the Eris for a minute and it was dang smooth. So I don't know if this is software or hardware. Any ideas?

Most of the sample phones are swamped with apps that testers have loaded while experimenting. A new Droid does not stutter. Must be all the excess apps.
