Droid Terminator Will not Be Your Regular Android Phone!!!

Motorola has been secretly working on a Tegra 2 powered phone for a while now, and they have been giving us hints about it before, when the CEO of Motorola told people that they are releasing a 2 Ghz phone with Nvidia graphics by the end of the year.
Well, it seems this phone, named Droid Terminator, will not be coming this year, but it will be announced at CES next year, on January 5th. Motorola is being very secretive because they wouldn?t want people to find out that a phone that has 2-2.5x the CPU performance and 5x the graphics performance of current phones is coming in just 3 months from now.
However, you should keep in mind that this performance will only happen at current resolution, which is 800?480. If it gets a higher resolution like 1280?720 ( I believe it will), then the performance will suffer quite a bit, just like it would for any PC game when you play at a higher resolution. But it should still be way more powerful than current phones, and also have a pixel density higher than even iPhone 4.
Tegra 2 should bring not only amazing 3D games like the ones built on the Unreal 3 engine, but also a much more fluid UI for Android Gingerbread, and later on, hardware acceleration for the Android browser to increase its rendering speed ? which is very needed on a smartphone.
Motorola already has the hardware ready, but they are now waiting to get the software, which will be Android Gingerbread. I think they would also rather have people buying all the old phones for holidays, and then awake the market after holidays with their powerful offering.
Droid Terminator will supposedly come to all 4 carriers in USA, following Samsung?s strategy with Galaxy S.

And a year and a half ago a 1ghz CPU was all the rage, wait 2 more years and it will be quad core. Tech doesn't slow down.

It should be noted that "Terminator" is a made up name (for T2), and of course Motorola is being secretive about a phone that's not yet announced. And of course there will be new phones at CES. I'll get more excited when I see sources. :/

Yeah, from what I read, Androidandme.com nicknamed it that. Not sure why that androidheadlines.com website is stealing things.

At least give credit to the website and Taylor for coming up with the name.

Sounds great but meh ill wait and see I've been put off by the poor programming in blur. So if this is running blur over 2.5 or whatever it's going to be ill take a single core htc phone

It is what androidheadlines does though. They take the headlines of other websites. Like a glorified RSS reader.

On the phone though, duh a new superphone will come out. Look at where we have come from since last year alone. What was the hot phone this time last year? The mytouch 3g, hero, Samsung moment? Not sure what I would do with dual core in my phone. Tablet... yes bring it on. The time for the processor race will come to a point where most would care less for the most part, kind of like what has happened in the pc industry, where diminishing returns has made it not that important to upgrade your cpu unless you are a gamer.

Well, it does say that the article was written by,

12. OCT, 2010 WRITTEN BY LUCIAN ARMASU

which IMO implies that he thinks the device will actually be called the Terminator / T2

He should edit it and say "The device, which Androidandme.com's Taylor Wimberly calls the Terminator or T2....blah blah"

I am going to use my current android happily....lame that much is leaked already....go ahead comp....there you go....lol...it will be amazing to see....think I have read this last month.....

I will be interested in checking this phone out as the date(gets closer) and more stats become available :)

I haven't been too impressed with Motorola's support of their phones or their interface. Not sure I would go for this...probably would just wait for another company to meet/beat it.

Agreed, the major downfall is its a .... Motorola device (barf)and I'm sure
MOTO will find a way to screw it up.

Sounds like an awesome phone. But ill stick with my X for now. Its all the phone I need plus more. Phones are getting so crazy these days.

It will be the fastest phone yet (to drain the battery)

IMO...and this goes for any high end/high profile phone makers...

Figure out a way to stuff a better/bigger battery into these phones before you put more power into them.

This is like putting a 400 HP Hemi motor in a Ford Focus with 14 inch tires...something has got to give.

^^ very true i just don't see this making it through a day without a huge battery. They would have to program it to keep one core idle when not in use. or have it set up to process in burst pull both cores back to 450 or so when not really needed ill wait for battery tech to catch up a little bit maybe an htc phone with dual core and lte will be released summer next year perfect timing for my new every two

I agree with both, if this was HTC making it it would definitely be a contender. But since it MOTO, I too rather stick with my Evo happily.:)

I've become a cell phone nut since I decided to pay for a phone (rather than get the one that came with the plan) and it was the G1. Now I've gone through a Nexus (lost it) and since 2 days ago a Vibrant (love it).

I cant help but be excited at the prospects of a 2ghz phone..I just hope that WHEN they do start coming out I would've at least extracted a good 1 year out of this Vibrant because I know I'm going to want a 2ghz phone when they start rolling out.

Terminator Guess

Does anyone have a good guess date wise when we can expect the terminator to be available?

Thanks to all!
