Droid Turbo has different glass?

So I went to my local Verizon store today to inquire about preordering the turbo and they told me I didn't need to because they have plenty of stock.

Anyways, I asked the guy what he thought and he was saying how the front glass is not gorilla glass, it's something else but he didn't know what.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it weaker or stronger?

Thanks

Everything that's been published has stated Gorilla Glass. At this point, I just don't know how it could not be. If it was something "better", it would be sapphire, and they would have been shouting that at the top of their lungs, so I'm guessing Gorilla Glass 3. Maybe he just meant "better than" the last version of Gorilla? Since rumor has it that tempered glass screen protectors will be available at launch, that sounds like a winning combo to me for anyone concerned about scratches.

Its definitely Gorilla Glass 3. Rule number one when talking to a rep-Never believe anything they say because they literally know nothing.

Some reps know nothing, don't generalize.

In most cases I don't generalize, but in this instance its safer too. I realize that you work for Verizon and obviously know what you're talking about, but the fact is, more than 99% of reps don't know what they're talking about and if you listen to them you'll know less walking out then you did walking in, won't leave with what you came in for, and will generally end up screwed.

I've had good luck the few times I've gone in. But really if you go into any sales situation uninformed you're likely to not get what you want.

Maybe I have just been lucky. My experience was more like 50%-50%. Plus in all fairness to them, some of the stuff I was asking was pretty detailed and not what the guy in tank top and flip-flops off the street would be asking when buying a phone. Listening to some of the questions in the store, I would be ready to tell some customers to go back home and get their brain. I am not cut out for sales work.

At this point I have names of three in the local store that are good.

Always go in and ask for the techy or geek of the bunch. Some reps don't care about this stuff and only know general info. Remember, In the end Verizon is a network company, we don't design phones, so If anything Motorola would be the best to contact for this info.

I never ask them anything because I already know exactly what I need when I go in. But I'll give you my experience the last time I bought a phone from the Verizon store.
Last year I bought the Droid Ultra, I went in and I told them I wanted the Ultra, but I needed to buy it on my sister's line and then switch the phone over to my number so I can keep my unlimited data. So I get there, and the rep goes to the back to get the phone. She then comes back and tries to get me to buy a wireless charging dock. I tell her it won't work on the Ultra, but she insists it will. She then asks every other rep that was working and they all insisted the Ultra worked with wireless. It took her a while to get my phone activated and switched over(I could have done it at home much quicker) and there was a shift change. She still tried to get me to buy the wireless charger and started asking the employees that just came in if it worked. They all said it would...one of them even said yes, the Ultra works with "Q-1" charging. I finally got her to stop by telling her I didn't want one, but if she could show me that it would work, I'd just give her the money for it, but if it didn't work she'd have to pay for the phone for me.
This is typical of what I get whenever I go to a Verizon store. Its typical of the reports you see if you read these forums. And its typical of people I know that have gone in to reps(not just on verizon) trying to get help. I had one friend that went in when she had problems with her phone and got sold a new phone when all she needed was a new battery.
Reps are just bad news. I wish it weren't the case, but waaaayyyy too many of them shouldn't be working where they do because they know virtually nothing.

I recently got a turbo..I just found a scratch on glass..just from being in my purse..don't think it's gorilla glass..

Gorilla Glass can scratch but its more resistant than regular glass. This is why I use a Tempered Glass screen protector. I wish phone manufacturers would start using Sapphire as that would be nearly scratch proof.

Sapphire glass is more scratch resistant, but it's also more brittle (so more prone to shatter when dropped or smacked against something hard at the same thickness), less transparent (so backlights or amoleds need to be brighter, requiring more battery power), and a lot more expensive to manufacture. Or, so I have read. Corning has worked with sapphire for decades and they continue to insist that gorilla glass is a better alternative for sheets of glass as large and thin as are used on today's smartphones.

Oh I know, but its still my preference. I don't ever drop my phone so its strength isn't a concern. Cost is a concern for the manufacturers but I'd pay more for it. Unfortunately, I'm in the minority here so it'll be a good while before this happens. :(

You realize if you asked about a turbo then he was talking about the 2014 model, not the new one. The new one has not been announced officially so there are no preorders.

He was talking about the droid turbo, and yes it has gorilla glass 3 on it. Im curious to see what is being used on the yet to be announced turbo two or whatever they call it.

Sent with my white Note5 with nonremovable back and no SDcard!

Hey Rus, that original post was from October 2014, looks like Lori bought it back up for discussion. A lot of chatter about "unbreakable" display on the new Turbo coming out soon, we shall see what it turns out to be.
