Droid USB to car stereo

I just purchased a car stereo for my Jeep, which is now installed. It has a USB port on the front of the audio deck, which is very convenient. I used my standard USB charger and plugged my droid right in. Here's the problem, when I started music through my music player, it just played through the phone speakers, and didn't play through the car speakers. I then pulled down my drag down menu, and mounted the droid, and it allowed the music to play through the car audio. The problem is that it seems it has to be mounted, in order for the audio to work through the car speakers. When the phone is mounted, as you know, I don't have access to the SD card... which is where all my music is. Does anyone have any ideas how to get around this? Aside from running a headphone to headphone jack, I'd really like to use the USB for sound, as well as charging, because the audio should be better than the headphone jack, thanks for any input!

I thought car stereo's that took usb input allowed you to select music? Say you were to use a simple usb stick to read music your head unit would have to have a way to browse the music. As far as i know there's no way to simultaneously access data on the card through the phone and have it mounted at the same time.

Only thing I can think of is dual mount sd widget... try it for a buck & if it doesn't work, get a refund...

I did the same thing as you but ended up just running the aux cable instead because it makes it simpler. Maybe because I used internet radio though and not music from my SD card.

There's no audio out via USB. With USB you're just mounting the SD card so the head unit can access music stored on it. If you want to get music from the music app on your Droid to your car's speakers you need to use the headphone jack or A2DP.
