hey guys,

Was able to update today and have tried a few times now, in downloads but fails on the install every time. The loader bar goes through the first 15% fast (almost too fast) then hangs and goes a slower speed, around the 25-30% mark it reboots and starts up like normal and says install failed.

I was rooted and had some apps, but no roms, just basics like wifi, and droid x overclock

I have restored the phone through android os, still failed, booted to the boot loader (?) (the lock, camera and home button one) Cleared cache and retried, failed once more. Then cleared cache and restored through that same menu, failed again!!

Any thoughts before I give up on it? Dont want to risk a refurb phone, would probably rather start running roms if thats the case.

Ok found the reason and the fix. Thanks to the forums out there I was able to find the info.

for me it was droid x overclocker is what modified my build.prop file since i messed in the extras and changed things, durring the install of the new update hit search and you can see where it fails. Thats how i found out it was the /cache/blur_version.2.3.15.MB810..... failed authorization

All you need it a stock droid x 2.3.15 build prop, then paste it to the system folder using root explorer or simular file viewer. I restarted the phone, then clicked for the update search and let it do its thing, finally it installed all the way

Attached below is the stock froyo droid x build prop

Hope this helps someone else out

I was able to move that file to my SD Card, but I can't move it to the system folder.

How did you do that?

Thanks in advance.

broadwayblues,

The only program I have been able to find that will do it is Root Explorer ($3.95). I tried about five different file managers and none could access the read-only /system folder.

Using that, I:

1. backed up (copied) my existing build.prop file to my SD card (just make a directory to hold it).

2. Then I mounted the /system folder r/w (there's a button for that).

3. Then I extracted the build.prop file from the build.zip file.

4. Finally, I copied it over to the /system folder and overwrote the existing file.

After that, the update went off without a hitch! Oh, I did lose my root. I'm going to wait a bit before trying to get it back.

THANKS 66racer, you ROCK!

Best regards,

Scott

FML I don't even have $2 in my account right now. Thanks to you both for looking into this.

What happened is I froze a couple of apps (CityID and Blockbuster) and later on did a full wipe. Those apps are not showing up in my Titanium Backup at all now. So I figured that the method above would work.

Well, once I get paid I will try this out.

I did all that copied and pasted build.prop file into the system folder. That did not fix my problem. I even un-rooted the phone.

It stalls in the "unpacking" part. It unpacks about 30% then it puts up brief exclamation point then it re-boots and gives me an error saying update failed.

Ok I narrowed it down to the fact that I removed the cardock after I rooted it. I found a CarDock.apk file in this forum and installed it to my /system/apps folder and tried again and it still failed on the CarDock part.

This is also an error I am getting right below the above failed error.

Error in /Cache Blur Version 2.3.15 MB810.Verizon.en.us.zip
Status 7

Trying this now.. crossing my fingers!

5min later.....

It completed the install...FINALLY!! Thank you so much!

Thanks racer for this....while I didnt need to do this...it led me to find out what was causing my failure (evidently i cant spell/type....didnt put the workcontacts.apk back the proper way after hiding it with root explorer.) Never knew about the search button trick but that let me find out what was wrong and fix it. Quick reroot and rename....installed without an issue.

Just had to say a HUGE thank you to 66racer for posting this info, the file, and saving me all of the time and trouble of trying a SBF. Followed the instructions and was smooth sailing to update, thanks again.

I am having trouble re-installing the weather widget... I loaded all the apk's that I deleted but I cant get the darn widget to install . I used the http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/ site.. everything else loads fine. but as the update trys it fail due to no weather widget... anywhere else I can get that apk from???

Did you copy over the Weather Widget.apk and Weather Widge.odex file to /system/app? You shouldn't have to install, but you must make sure the permissions are set by checking only these boxes: User Read, User Write, Group Read, Others Read
