Droid X got GB. Is the DInc far behind?

Here is my question. If I am not mistaken, the Droid X and the Droid Incredible are both EOL devices, yet the X is getting it's Gingerbread update pushed, according to the post on this great site. Is the DInc really going to get GB? If and when it does, how long do you guys think it will take to release? Or is it a lost cause for official updates on this great phone?

I don't personally think it's a lost cause. There are a Ton of DInc's in the wild and GB does fix some security issues in Froyo, so I think there is a shot. Last time around, the OG Droid got Froyo shortly before the DInc did, then the X. I think PhilBlur might be easier to port then Sense. I'm sure we'll start hearing rumors shortly.

I hope not... I really don't want to unroot, get the OTA, reroot and start again... or Do i have to do all that?

I hope that it does get released. I read that the rumored release was for Q2. I will believe it when I see it. I am optimistic knowing that there are so many DInc users in the community that use it. If the Droid X is getting it this soon, then HTC and Verizon must be finalizing what bloatware is going to be attached to the update. I hope that the low application notification glitch gets taken care of with GB.

The best news I have heard all day. I guess there are way too many Droid Incredibles in the wild to get overlooked. Way to go, HTC. Now lets see what improvements are added. You know Big Red will bloat the crap out of the update with unremovable apps.

You should un-root for the update and be back to stock, including replacing any bloatware you may have removed.

It's not so much a problem of losing root to the OTA, it's that the old root method will likely not work and the Unrevoked team has to crack it again before you can re-root.

cool by the time everyone gets the update for gingerbread the next version of android will be released... I wonder why people feel the need to root and flash roms? cm ftw

Ugh,
I don't know where my backup was before I rooted!!!
Pville, I don't run any custom roms....

Don't sweat it Tony, I got you covered in the ROM's and Mod's thread to get you back to Froyo Stock. ;)

The killer is the bloatware check. That's where folks got hammered last time. They removed the .apk's instead of just renaming them to .bak. Then when the OTA hit it would fail because it was looking to validate the bloat.

EDIT: Doug Piston just released an app in the market called Much Suck that has everything you need to unroot and go back to stock Froyo (Including s-on). You don't even need a PC.

my pleasure.

I have a feeling there is going to be an unrooting stampede as things get closer to release! ;)

I guess that is one of the reasons I never rooted my phone, as I never felt the need. I guess that Q2 availability statement that was made a couple of weeks back has some credence.

Is there something wrong with me, because I am happy with my DInc, just the way it is? Rooted, working fine, doing everything I need/want it to do. If it aint broke, don't fix it!!!

I agree 100%. My unrooted DInc continues to perform like a champ. And I can imagine the Linpack/Quadrant scores after the Gingerbread update!

I just want an android device with screen capture, etc.
Every other platform has this, but not Android....ticks me off lol.

I'm running CM7 final and I'm totally loving it. I will probably flash the new OTA if it looks promising enough. All I will need is an update.zip or a PB31img.zip and I'll be running rooted in no time!

There's nothing wrong with not rooting, or just rooting and sticking with stock 2.2, it's your phone. If you want to back over it several times with your car or attempt to use it in the shower, go nuts...it's your phone.
