im hearing it has a older version then the galaxy s class, so is the cpu or gpu the most important part of a phone?

Yep what Smoke said. CPU is the majorly important spec as it controls virtually everything you do on your phone. The GPU only plays an important role in accelerated 3D graphics. Sadly even today there aren't many 3D accelerated apps and games around to take advantage of our GPU's so it doesn't really even matter.

Only things like Benchmarks will take advantage of the processing power of the GPU. An example of CPU bound games and GPU bound games would be to compare a Nintendo game running on NESoid (CPU only) vs Epic Citadel running on the iPad which takes advantage of the GPU.
