I am going to travel in S E Asia. Our security officer has asked me not to take my Droid X, saying that it will become infested with keystroke recording software and other malware. He claims that often happens to blackberries. Has anyone ever heard of malware being pushed to mobile devices that way?

Also will the Droid X (VZ) even function in Vietnam, which was actually my first question to him.

A few weeks ago there was an excelent article posted in the forums of a user who travelled abroad and was able to use his/her VZW Droid phone. It was posted to the main site page, so you might search there for it. As I recall, he was successful but had a lot of tips.

Its not actually Malware meant to do harm. Although us here in the U.S. would argue otherwise.

When you go to certain countries in Southeast Asia you have to live by their laws. In some of these countries the governments track everything. Including what people are doing on networks and towers within their borders. I think what he meant was that they will push things to your smartphone to monitor what you are doing to make sure your not doing something that would bring detriment to their government.

Blackberries are bad for this...mainly because they are the most commonly used phone over seas because of their world capable phones.

Yea leave it home. Don't want to get picked up for doing what android does best. Porn! Yea some countries don't allow it.
