Can someone recommend a good replacement to the stock keyboard? I like the keyboard but (and maybe I'm nitpicking) but I dont like the fact I keep hitting the period every time I type on that side of the keyboard.

I am not good at the swype...Is there anything else in the market that someone can recommend?

Thanks

I like Smart Keyboard (mostly because of free trial version). Others have said that Better Keyboard is good as well. I have not tried that one because you have to pay and testing must be done in 24 hours if you want a refund for not liking it. AC did a very nice Keyboard Roundup a few months ago that you might search for.

Smart Keyboard Pro...without a doubt. Fixes the period issue by making that button smaller.

Ultra Keyboard works great. I too had issues the first time I tried Swype. But so many were praising its speed, I decided to try it again. This time, I committed to using only Swype for 2 days. It was sluggish (for me) in the beginning, but before the first day was up, I had decided I'd never switch back. It's faster than any other form of typing.

I use swift key and love it! After about a week of use the prediction software really gets easy to use and makes things super quick! I also love the keyboard layout and how customisable the program is! Check out the free trial!

Swiftkey and Smart Keyboard Pro are both great alternatives, and if you're open to it, you can install things like the HTC Sense modified keyboard by simply downloading the APK as well.

You definitely have a decent selection!

on this same note, can anyone tell me if any of these alternatives have a copy/paste/text editing tool comparable to the swype one? The swype has arrows, and buttons for selections. Do either of these smartkey and better keyboard have that?

+1 for smart keyboard. after using it for a while, it is really tough going back to any other alternative

i have not seen any options for a decent editing tool on smart key though. however, on any of the keyboards, you should be able to use the bullseye to easily get to an editing point, and then long press, press select text, and a pop-up window should pop up to easily see what you are highlighting, and then another long press can copy/paste, etc. certainly not as good as say having a trackball or pad, but it works pretty decently

Try learning Swype. Only takes a couple times of practice and you will be hooked ... never to return to touch-typing. If you disable a lot of the automatic dictionary/word completion, it becomes even that much better. Love it!!!

i agree on the portrait side of things, but i just cant get the hang of it in landscape.

That was similar to my experiance. I committed to swype for a week, and now I love it more than I thought I would.

I think once you get use to swype you won't use keyboard any other way. Since it's on dx by default too .
Ultra keyboard is good too that's on my dinc about the same as swype . :)

Sent using TaPaTaLk

No matter how much time I spend with it and how much effort I put into it, I just can?t get used to it. I guess I?ll always be a tapper :P

how do you disable the automatic dictionary, mine is all jacked up and has added words i know i never typed, so its constantly selecting the wrong ones. Such as saying "hello" itll automatically make "hellp" the primary, then pop up a message saying hello was hidden... very annoying, would love to delete the automatic dictionary. Can you tell me how?

I installed the Rubix ROM on my phone and was disappointed that the stock,
multi-touch keyboard wasn't on there. I wish I could install the APK without
having FC problems with it.

Settings > Language & keyboard > (make sure Sype is selected as input method) Swype settings > Word Choice Window > Never

Also, make sure "word prediction" is UNchecked.

Curious, why uncheck word prediction? I swype 2-4 letters, and then tap the predicted word to finish. Word prediction is real nice I thought. Am I missing something?

+1 for smart keyboard pro. I've given Swype, Swiftkey, and 8pen a chance, and I always find myself coming back to smart keyboard pro.
