Hey all,

Need help. Short summary: I have issues with System UID Inconsistency Errors and I can't get my phone to Factory Reset or flash a new SBF.

Longer version: I'm trying to troubleshoot my phone (Droid X, unrooted, out of warranty, 2.3.4 with 4.5.621 OTA update). For the past few weeks it has been giving me errors about System UID Inconsistencies. It also has been rebooting the phone endlessly requiring battery pulls. Research online suggested the fix for the UID Inconsistency errors is a Factory Reset. So I tried that within the Android OS. It took me to recovery mode. I've also tried going to recovery mode through the power and home buttons on the phone. In both cases, I can wipe the data/cache, but when I reboot the phone, it comes back as if nothing happened. This includes the errors. Originally it came back thinking it was July 4th, now it knows the date but still no setting changes I make stick.

I've tried downloading RSD Lite and flashing the 4.5.621 SBF onto the phone. Not that I really know what I'm doing, but it hasn't worked each time, due to checksum errors. The last time I tried seemed to corrupt the bootloader (version 30.04), although after another battery pull the phone forgot its problems and reloaded like before (its own problems work in my favor sometimes). The bootloader currently doesn't show that error anymore.

Occasionally when the phone craps up with errors and restarts itself, it shows "Welcome to Droid X! Click the android to continue" or something to that effect, which makes me think somehow the factory reset got through, but each time I see that there's a cascade of errors that keep me from clicking the android (so close grargh) and I have to pull the battery. After which, it thinks it hasn't been reset again.

Sooo... Any ideas? The phone is still half-usable, but I want it fixed, and am willing to experiment to the extreme. Also willing to root my phone to fix it, but need to have a good plan going in since it might be tricky if it doesn't work. Anyone encounter anything like this before, or think they know what's up? Any advice would be super-welcome.

Thanks!
