I've heard that the only thing that stops OTAs are custom ROMs. At least that's how it's been up to this point. We'll see how the next one goes but I don't see rooting blocking any OTAs.

i believe that it is. OTAs come across. whether or not they undo the root remains to be seen. froyo likely will. incrementals likely not.

Froyo will likely remove root, but it likely won't remove the exploit. This thing is so deep, it's in the kernel itself...so unless a patch is made, and moto picks it up and puts it in their kernel (or moto makes it, and puts it in the kernel, at which point they are obligated to show the source code), you will be able to easily re-root it.

BTW, doesn't Froyo have the Wi-Fi hotspot built in? If so, then I wonder how this will affect Verizon's hotspot app? Especially with the recent court ruling regarding the rooting of phones.
