I wish you had to be a current Verizon customer to win. That would eliminate those pesky at&t tmobile and sprint customers that will find it and then sell it on ebay. hahahah

I bet to redeem your prize you have to sign up for a new 2-year contract.. thats how they get you.

Francis posted some details on another forum under the username "francypants"...figured I'd bring it over here.

Hey everyone, this is Francis, the guy that found the 1st Droid. People have been wondering how I found the phone so fast. I actually didn't find it 6 minutes after the GPS coordinates were posted. Verizon posted a tweet several minutes prior with actual hints (this tweet was then deleted and replaced with the GPS coordinate, sometime during my bike ride over to the location). I work a few blocks away, and after figuring out the general destination by doing some googling work using "Long Time" and piers/docks, it led me to pier 66 where there was an industrial sculpture called "Long Time". I casually biked over there, took some time walking around the wrong pier, and then made my way to the actual sculpture. I looked in the map bin because that was another clue given in the tweet about "needing a map". The certificate was in there. I then proceeded to read the certificate, which told me to find a person nearby with a Verizon logo. There were several "tourists" on the pier, which turned out to be undercover Verizon employees who congratulated and filmed me after I handed the certificate over. I was totally surprised cause I expected to just find a certificate which I'd have to redeem at a local Verizon store. But it was a much bigger production, which shouldn't have been a surprise if i had read the terms and conditions, as they mention videotaping and whatnot for marketing purposes. Anyways, that's pretty much it...

Oh and everyone be upset about his next post
I've been following the news on the Droid X in general, as I've been planning on switching over from the iphone/ATT to Droid/Verizon. However, I only found out about the droid landing twitter account this morning. I don't really tweet or follow tweets, but the contest info popped up during a google search. But yes, they do give you the physical phone on site. I have it here right now, but won't be able to activate it for another week or so when my contract expires...

From the official rules (can be seen on page 17 of this thread):

4. Prizes and Approximate Retail Value ("ARV"): Prizes (21): A Verizon Wireless Droid Phone ARV $569.99 each. Service not included with phone. The total ARV of all prizes to be awarded in the Promotion is $11,969.79. Limit one (1) prize per person/household.

That's all I could find about service, so I'd guess they won't make you sign up.

Damn, dude got pretty lucky. Yeah that tweet he's talking about with hints were from the @DroidLanding. Check page 24 and beyond of this thread to see how it went down for us. People even brought up docks and map vendor carts too. Just needed to take it a step further. Oh well, I'm 1000 miles away anyways lol.

DroidLanding: Droid X designate #20 is in a city where everybody knows its name. Or they will in 2 days.

Hm. Wonder what city it's in.

Yep I believe that clue is a refrence to to Cheers theme song........... Cheers was set in Boston.

earlier it said its where the pilgrims landed. so im thinking Boston too.

ok we wil have to be vigilant, since they are taking clues down not long after posting them, and just before they post the coordinates, we need to make sure we report every tweet, and help each other out

Why do I get the sinking feeling in my stomach that NONE will be even close to Michigan.......... oh well.

It's only an hour drive from Western Michigan to Chicago... Oh you meant that none will be close to the inhabited part of Michigan, didn't you?

Yeah I'm guessing we Michiganders are going to miss out unless we want to drive to Chicago or Cleaveland

Actually I am in SW Michigan 90 miles from Chicago. But you know by the time I get there it will be gone.

DroidLanding: In 4 days, Droid X designate #2 will be in southern California. Could it be masquerading in Hollywood as a camera?

DroidLanding: In 3 days, Droid X designate #21 will be in a state that- Wait, it isn't a state. That's okay. Droid X isn't just a phone.

D.C. ?????
