Droid X screen stops responding

I have a launch day Droid X, and over the last couple of weeks, an issue seems to have cropped up.

I'll be typing on the touchscreen keyboard, when all of a sudden it starts to get sluggish, with a delay between me pressing a key and the letter showing up on screen. A few seconds later, the screen becomes completely unresponsive, not responding to any touch. Turning the phone off and then right back on solves the issue, but that's a bit of a pain to do. Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, is there something wrong with the phone? Some software on it? How do you fix it?

Mine locks up when I get phone calls and wont allow me to answer them. Awesome thing for a phone to do. Who wants to receive phone calls on a phone anyway...

You may want to try cleaning the cache.

Turn off your Droid, then turn it back on....while it's booting up hold the home button. You should see a droid with an exclamation mark, this is normal. Press the search button, it will go to a prompt screen. Press the volume toggle to the wipe cache prompt, an press the camera button. This will clean your cache....when it says this, move the volume toggle to reboot, and you should experience better speed.

Thank you forum members for teaching me this.....good luck, and please pop back in and let us know your results.

Ps....reboot your phone once a day.

As far as the phone not answering issue, if wiping the cache dosent work, I would probably bring it back to Verizon. This is obviously not a common problem.

Good luck to you both.

A bad file/filesystem on your sd card can cause a lot of problems as well. Take the card out or put a spare sd card in to test. If th problem goes away, move your files off your card and reformat it. Then move only essential files and folders back to the card and test. Repeat till everything you want is back on the card, or you find a bad file.

If it's not the card, a Factory Data Reset is in your future.

try receiving a phone call while on the multi media dock, you pull the phone off the dock to answer it, and its completely locked up. They should at least let you change a hard button to answer it, like the home button. You can change the power button to hang the phone up, but no hard button to answer it. Strange.

as for the OP, my keyboard has become very sluggish lately as well, but never the lockups during typing.

p.s. i clear my cache almost 2 times a week, and reboot more than once a day. Every time i use anything media related i reboot my phone when i am done.

apparently some people have issues when the phone is plugged in to usb or AC charger with the touchscreen. Im not sure what the cause of this is, but on some of my chargers the touchscreen will act very strangely when plugged in. normally I have to take it off the charger and hit the lock/power button and then unlock it again and everything is fine.

I have heard of others who have this issue

well, I cleared the cache, and the phone seemed to run quite a bit better, but the next day I was plagued with the screen freeze again...and it's happened a number of times since as well. Seems to also be occurring not just when I'm typing, but when I'm scrolling, or even when I just turn the phone on and try to unlock it. A quick off and back on again seems to make the issue go away.

I have had similar issues like that too, but only with the dx my htc and ipod touch are unaffected.Cleaning cache and powering off an on temp.corrects,I don't have the same sd card as I use to have either so that wasn't the reason for in my case.

While the phone is off, hold down the home button, and then power on the phone, holding down the home button until the ! comes up.
