Droid X vs the Samsung Tab or Rooted Nook?

The Droid X is my 1st smartphone. When I purchased this phone, a big selling point for me was being a total touch screen device. I just didn't think I would miss a traditional keyboard and I haven't. I also wanted the biggest screen possible since I have big hands and was skeptical about trying to access the net on a small screen. Honestly, I still think a bigger screen would be even better.

I've thought about getting an Android tablet but find that even though 4.3 inches is significantly smaller than 7, I find the Droid X to still be very functional.

Obviously, the Droid X can run any app in the Android market, have root, etc.

Just wondering what advantages a tab or rooted nook would offer that my X can't.

The idea of turning a nook into a tablet through root would be cool simply because of the geek factor, but for those that have and love the X, can anyone comment on how useful a tablet. Do you take both with you and, if so, how does it compliment your X?

Can the tabs or rooted nooks run things that the Droid X can't?

The tab has a front camera for video chat. That's the only thing I can think of that it does over the Droid x. I like the thought of the tab, but I really don't need one because I have a droid x.

I don't think you would get any more use out of the Galaxy Tab over a DX. With the exeption of the front camera there is nothing that I have not been able to do with my DX. The only reason I would get a tablet would be for watching videos and the Archos 10.1 inch was looking pretty good for that. I might give that a shot.

This was my thought exactly. I was looking at the Samsung Tab, but at $600.00 I passed. If the price drops significantly I may consider one again.

Right now my DX can do everything I need, so I really have no need for a Tab.

The price is a deal breaker and the limited amount of data plans allowed is a real let down also.. I will pass, besides 3 inches and a front facing camera isnt worth it.

I have decided the same thing as many of you have said...the X provides most of the functions of a tablet. The large screen is plenty for me. I won't shell out $600 for a device that won't give me all that much else. For those that don't have a large screen phone, or even a non-smart phone, it might be worth it. However, I still would wait and see what comes along later, and how pricing will drop once more tablets hit the market.

Gotta throw in another "X is enough" opinion here. I messed with a Tab and thought it was pretty cool, but at the end of the day it's just a larger android phone with a couple of meh cameras that shackles you to another Data plan. It didn't feel like it did anything better or offered anything I couldn't do on my X. Reading on the bigger screen is also a non-issue. I have a Kindle DX for reading (which I do a lot of), and after spending vacation last week on Isla Mujeres and seeing all the iPad owners scambling to find shade on the beach so they could actually see their screens, I'll stick with that. Most of them ended up by the pool, under heavy shade areas watching YouTube videos while the Kindle people lounged in the rays twenty feet off the clearest blue ocean you ever saw, reading at leasure. It was actually hilarious to watch this play out

EDIT: Plus, $600? Are they joking? If these things hit market for $200-300, I would consider one to use mainly as a sheet music reader for gigs, but that's really it.

I too think that my X is enough. It is large enough to make movies descent to watch, but still remains portable. I could not imagine trying to carry around a tab or nook all day. Just not practicle. If I want a reader, I would probably consider a nook and root it for the fun of it, but it would never replace my X.
