Is there a benefit of using Dropbox over Google Docs? I know that Dropbox has an Android client and Google Docs doesn't but I believe that you can access and edit from Quickoffice.

Perhaps more research is indicated for you? They're not at all the same thing.

I know people that use Google Docs as their own personal file server, since you can upload anything.

Dropbox is a very efficient way to move documents of almost any type from one PC or Smartphone to another. The documents are edited by the resident applications and the updated version can remain in the Drop Box to copy and paste to another device to in effect sync the updated documents. Dropbox in of itself does not convert or provide any editing tools as this is not the purpose. Dropbox is sort of a "thumb drive" in the cloud.
