Dropped call and audio issues

Okay, our office is seeming to find more wrong than right lately. Besides the signal issues/dropped calls, we are finding dropped calls when call waiting comes through. Problem is this locks the phone up from receiving a call when it drops. I don't know if it has to do with the "dismiss" button you need to select when a call is dropped and that by the time you realize the call is dropped the phone is locked.

Onto the second issue, during phone calls the volume of the person seems to jump up and down. Almost like my ear isn't over the speaker, but then it will sound fine and quiet again. Also, external speaker seems very low while trying to play back voicemail over it.

I like the phone, especially the FM receiver, just need to get over these hurdles. Maybe we switched to soon and should have let the kinks work out.

My wife and I were having call quality issues. We turned off "voice privacy" and it fixed our issues. Specifically, we were having a lot of static during calls. It may have to do with how close we live to an airport as I haven't seen anyone else complaining of static but we unchecked that one setting under menu>settings>call>voice privacy. You could try it and see if you have any luck. I think it is for encrypting calls or something that isn't of much concern on a cdma network.

Thanks for the tip. Certainly worth a try. Otherwise the phones will be on the chopping block. Ordered a replacement for my bosses phone last night to see if it's not a bad phone.

EDIT: Already had the above setting off, so that can't be it. I'm hoping we just have a bad batch of phones.

EDIT: Found on the HTC website under their forums where a couple of others are experiencing the same issue, so I guess the new phone isn't going to help.

Okay, seems like no one is suffering the dropped calls on call waiting here, but I'll still give what little update I have. We just got a replacement phone in to see if it is hardware as that was Sprint's response. It has not fixed the issue. I contacted HTC through e-mail and they have stated this is a Sprint related issue. Either way it is very frustrating to have calls dropped just because someone is calling in. Now it doesn't happen all the time, but what I have noticed is there is no tone or beep to tell you that a call is coming in. You just finally realize there is no one on the other end, look at your phone and see an error message, see a missed call signal and you can drop it down to see who it is, but magically if you go to the call log, the call you made and the incoming call waiting call are no where to be listed.

Has anything come of this issue? My friend with the Shift just told me she's experiencing the same thing with the call waiting / dropped call issue.

Nothing official has been stated. I have been successful lately in not getting the call waiting to drop me, but my boss is still having issues. We both lately have been getting dropped calls and while you think your talking to someone it is busy redialing that person, so the next thing you here is the phone ringing someone. Also had it call back another person in the call history. Has a mind of its own.

How is this not a dealbreaker to some? I would think that'd be annoying. Altho it doesn't seem to happen consistently.

After speaking with about 5 different people at Sprint yesterday, I finally got a supervisor of a supervisor to say they are aware of the "call waiting drops". Every other person I spoke with said it was the first they've heard of it. Needless to say I've called them before about it, so one would think it was in our profile.

Basically he confirmed it is a software issue and are awaiting HTC to correct it. We eventually found out the issue was not answering the call waiting and when you do that, the phone struggles knowing what to do so it just drops the calls. What is still confusing is when calls are dropped why would the phone not be able to remember the first call or the incoming waiting call in the history? Well the fact that I've had Sprint admit it makes me feel somewhat better. My thought is the carrier can push the manufacturer to correct the issue. The downside is there was no ETA of the HTC software fix. There only option for us now is to turn off the call waiting feature on their end for our phones until the software update comes out.

Turn off call waiting? Is that really a solution?

For the time being it cuts down on call drops, especially behind an Airave that doesn't send a tone through to notify you to answer it before you lose both calls.

Hopefully HTC gets their software update soon.

My friend is stating that now it's happening when she receives a text while on a call as well.

Nice. Glad to see that HTC is working fast for a resolution. I have a feeling this phone is an ugly stepchild that gets no attention. Accessories seem to be slim. The Thunderbolt was getting accessory reviews before it even came out. I don't understand.

They also need to fix the speaker if at all possible. I can't use this phone as a speakerphone at all. Can hardly hear the person no matter what I try.

It sounds like you all haved a bad batch of phones. I have had mine for almost 2 months now and not haved seen nor experienced any of the issues you all have talked about.

I would imagine that the dual processor phones would get more attention then this phone in general. Most people will want a dual processor phone. Also HTC has the 3D phone coming out. Personally speaking, those other phones sound like battery hogs. I have read that this phone is considered an entry level device. I have read that this device will get the android 2.3 update.

I'm having the same issues... glad to hear it's been acknowledged.
Maybe the fix will come with Gingerbread?????

Has this issue been fixed with Gingerbread? Has anyone had the issue since then? My friend is still having the issue but hasn't installed the update for her phone yet. I'm considering getting this phone for my dad also but not if it still has this issue.

This may actually be a Sprint issue. A few days ago I experienced this issue on a Sprint Palm Pre. The call I was on broke up and failed when another call was trying to come in. There was no notification tone that another call was attempting to connect. The second call was in the call history though as a missed call.

I do not use the phone much as a phone and so have not noticed any call waiting issues before.

I don't think it's a Sprint issue; if so it would probably happen with more than one phone, and it would probably be acknowledged more.
