Hello,

I dropped my nexus 5 on the ground and the below video is showing what happened? NO screen damage just odd screen behavior? Is this a screen problem I need to replace or hardware problems?? I saw lots of you tube video of how to replace the screen specially the screen with frame replacement, but I don't want to spend the 100 $ before I make sure it is a screen problem. I am so disappointed how the screen got damage with such a drop which never happened with my nexus 4 that fell many times!!

Thanks in advance...

I assume the vertical magenta stuff is your wallpaper, not part of the problem, so you're talking about the bar on the bottom.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's a loose connection - but the same thing can happen if a few transistors on a chip on the motherboard fractured or if something in the screen got broken.

The way to find out which it is, is to unplug the cable, check the pins to make sure one or more didn't break, then plug it back in. If that fixes it, it was a bad connection. If not, plug your screen into another N5 and see if the problem still exists. That would mean a bad screen. If you plug a good screen into your motherboard and there's still a problem, it's the motherboard.

Regardless of how many videos you've seen of people replacing screens, you've never seen a video of someone who's never opened a cellphone before replacing a screen and having no problems. The videos you see are of people who have replaced a dozen screens or more, and it's all part of a day's work to them. It's not as easy as it looks, and you usually cause problems when you do it. (Pinched cables, broken connectors, breaking a piece on the motherboard, which means a new motherboard, etc.) Then no shop will touch the phone, because you'll blame them for anything that goes wrong after you get it back, so they have to do a complete analysis of the phone (which could take a few days - and for which you pay by the hour) to make sure that they find everything that's wrong and that already brings the bill up to or past the price of a new phone. No matter how cheap it is to fix the phone after that, you're not going to pay (why pay $500 to repair a $400 phone?), so they have to fix it and sell it - as a used phone - for about $150 or $200 - and lose money. Any shop that's been in business for a while (and that's what you want - someone with experience) has had that happen and won't let it happen again.

Bring it to a repair shop and pay them to find out what's wrong and fix it. It's cheaper. (Make sure that everything is backed up - because any shop will first do a factory reset in front of you when they accept the phone for repair, so you can't later claim that they stole your data. Some shops will allow you to sign a waiver of indemnity, but then if your identity is stolen, you can't blame them.)

Its the bottom and vertical also, I de and re assembled the nexus 5 easily and put all part together without a problem. I dont have another screen to test that is why I want help identifying the problem if this is a screen or not.

Update,, now the picture is is reversed and touch function is not working
