I see lots of "this thing breaks easy" threads but in my experience its a tough device.
I've had my N4 since November. Never used case/protectors.

While on vacation I stashed the phone in a towel by the pool. Exited pool, grabbed towel, and launched the N4 4-5 feet off the ground through the air.
It landed on the upper left corner, directly on the chrome coming to rest face down.

Amazingly the only damage was some dented/scruffed chrome.
Screen and glass survived without a mark.

Very lucky.

I have a nice little chunk taken out of the bumper on one corner, no idea when or how it happened but it made we change my mind about getting rid of the bumper!
