Dumb move by verizon

I just upgraded to the Thunderbolt 2 weeks ago on a 1 year. By the time I am eligible to upgrade, it will be tiered data. I guess I will seriously be looking at sprint at that time. I know I have to sign a 2 year with them, but they might still at least be unlimited data. If the Droid Charge comes out before they get rid of 1 year contracts, I might upgrade my wifes line with the droid charge on a 1 year and then put her LG Dare back on the line and sell the charge, that way I can at least make some money since my line would be under contract.

Verizon is really starting to piss people off. And AT&T is saying that their buyout of TMobile is a good thing. I only forsee worse things to come if that buyout is allowed.

I honestly would never sign a new contract with Verizon and just pay retail if I was going to lose unlimited data. I can just see it now: 2 GB for $29.99. Haha, yeah right.

my contract is up and I was going to pull the trigger on a thunderbolt soon, been deciding between a 1 year or a 2 year and now I feel like I my decision is being made for me. All the carriers are horrible, choosing between them is like choosing between torture devices.

The iphone has no bearing on this, you can only get a 2-year contract as it stands with the iphone. It's got nothing to do with the iphone, but rather a concerted move by Verizon that began with the iphone.

It's pretty ignorant to say it doesn't have any bearing. It has a lot and in fact I'd say it's entirely the reason. Apple does NOT like 1yr contracts and with the upcoming iPhone 5 being on Verizon they will do what they can to force the situation.

This was coming eventually, but per the panda it is definitely the fruit's fault.

I tell people.. no one listens. Then u find out that verizon is now the evil empire... thank the fruit cause now we don't have to compete..

ya, that wont help sell the iphone if you have to do a 2 year but all the other phones offer a 1 year, level the playing field

Glad I locked into the 1 year for the ThunderBolt.
If I stay with Verizon, then I'll switch to the monthly plan after that.

Though if another carrier has a significantly better phone subsidized with a 1 year contract next year, then I'll definitely switch carriers. I'm not signing away my soul for 2 years.

They'll probably bring back the 1 year contract, if AT&T gains market share. I guess they're feeling more confident, since they've got better reputation for coverage, Apple products, and faster 4G LTE data network.

Our discount does not entitle us to a one year contract. Those excluded from the new rule appear to be the corporations themselves with multiple phones who have actual business deals with Verizon.

Yes those of us with enterprise service through Verizon get lots of perks....30 to 45 day returns with no restocking fee...one year contracts etc.... our enterprise rarely if ever goes with one year contracts though.

You suck! :p

i think Verizon made a bad move here. there are a lot of people that will not drop full retail on a new phone unless their contract are up, by only offering 2 year contracts they will lose out on sales period. where are the minority? if that make any sense...LOL!!! -_-

I just got the HTC Incredible with 1 year contract using my employer account. This include the 20% discount on the monthly bill.

The new policy has not gone in effect yet and that's the reason you were able to do a one year contract.

Ridiculous. I can't upgrade until 4/24. One effin' week. Argh! This almost makes me want to consider leaving VZW. Tiered data. 2 year contracts. Hell I may just go month to month and buy something full retail. Dumb if you ask me. I get 20% off my bill but don't know anything about being effected with the contracts. I don't think it works that way for me. Maybe I'll call a CSR and tell them to bump my upgrade up. WTF VZW. WTF.

Hey things just keep getting better right ... I mean afterall verizon is doing this to make it easier on us ... to be honest this kind of stuff just seems to be happening all over lately and it really pisses me off, they just keep forcing the consumer to bend over further and further and in these terrible economic times its basically unethical in my opinion, I honestly would love to see the government actually do something about it, but they're too busy with other crap to worry about poor old consumer us

You want the GOVERNMENT to do something about ?!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! The GOVERNMENT has us bent over so far NOW I can see my own back side!!! The GOVERNMENT would only ADD yet MORE layers of bureaucracy, ADD MORE taxes and in doing so RESTRICT future advances in technology and features by making them cost prohibitive for carriers AND consummers.

You mention terrible economic times - and think only the "people" are in these times? Companies like Verizon rely on consumers to stay in business. If you don't like Verizon's plans and pricing - DON'T BUY FROM VERIZON.

Verizon will stop trying to sell stuff that people don't want, if people stop buying.

At the very least, stop buying every new phone release that pops up. How many people here NEEDED the Thunderbolt and how many just WANTED the Thunderbolt?

I am in the WANTED column. I am a grown up, I PAY for what I want. If what I WANT is more than I am willing to pay, I DO WITHOUT.

The GOVERNMENT is NOT the answer to your problems, MAN UP.

No one HAS to buy into a two year contract - you could pay the actual retail price for the phone and not be tied to ANY contract.

What would be nice to see (and I'm not holding my breath) is a reduced monthly service price for people who buy the phone out right AND sign a 1-2 year contract.

Speaking of ignorant: explain to me why apple would be aginst one year contracts? they are a hardware company one year contracts equal more phone sales which is good for apple. The way that apple plays into the mix is that the carriers cannot afford to subsize such an expensive phone. Apple charges AT&T and Verizon way more per unit than any android hardware manufacture. So that is why you cannot get a iPhone on a one year contract. And now apparently any phone on a one year, but let's be clear it is because "apple doesn't like one year contracts" they could care less how long you are with a carrier as long as you are buying their products.

I'd be calling daily or even hourly if I was you. Your going to be able to find someone willing to bump you up. Threaten to go to Sprint every so often and your set :)

I guess I am fortunate, I got my TB on a 1 year contract through my corporate plan. Really disappointed in this decision.
