duplicate emails

I've had the Hero for close to a month now and this whole time I've been getting double email notices, one from gmail and the other from HTC. I end up with an envelope & @ icon. It's possible o set up both nut would only like to keep the gmail. How do I un install the other?

Go into your htc account and hit the menu key then select accounts and hold the account name until the list of options come up then select delete account.

i'm confused, whats the htc account? is that something on the phone or an actual website? thanks
