Duplicate Photo's

How come when I hook my phone up to my PC it creates a folder named .thumbnails in the DCIM folder? I don't see that folder when I look at it on my phone. It makes my computer think that there are 2 photos instead of 1 and wants to import both photo's with different file names. I know I can just drag and drop but I would rather use Windows Photo gallery like it was intended. It's a pain in my but. Any ideas on how to get around this?

I'm having same issue. Everytime I unload pictures to my computer, it unloads all of them and I end up with duplicates, then triplicates, etc.
