Problems opening images from my phone in Windows via USB

Via my phone, when viewing my gallery, everything looks great however when I connect my phone to my Windows PC via USB, this is where things get strange. Here's what I'm seeing:
* When first plugged in, Windows Explorer opens and shows "Internal Storage" 69GB free of 221GB.
* Opening that, I can see my DCIM folder which would normally be where my gallery photos are located. Here, I can only see the gallery albums, as folders, which I created from 6th July 2024 onwards which is strange since I have created albums way before this. Some of the albums I can see are:
-- Milano Duogs
-- 2024 Melb F1
-- 2024 Sassici
-- 2024-07-13 Claudia's 22nd birthday
-- 3D Printing
* I can open some of the images in these folders OK most others I try to open in Windows Photo Viewer just sit there with the "Loading" message.
* Seems like if I try to open the images with Windows Photo Viewer, the problem starts. I tried to open the images with Paint.Net and got the error "0x80070141: The device is unreachable". I then have to unplug my phone and plug it back in and I can open all the images in Paint.Net OK. Windows Photo Viewer seems to be the issue.

Also, when viewing the images in Windows Explorer they have the name of the image and on the next line "Unhandled Extension Handler Finder"

Phone is:
Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 SM-F936B
Android version is One UI 6.1, Android 14
Windows PC is:
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
OS Version: 10.0.22631 N/A Build 22631

What file format are these images? JPEG or something else?

Just a suggestion...

I had trouble with the windows viewer & went back to the older app.

I'm using Microsoft Photos Legacy 2023.11110.29003.0 & haven't had any more problems. You might try it as a quick troubleshooting step.
