DX case texture life?

Are there any DXers that are going naked on their phone?

I really like how thin it is and I like the feel of the new soft rubber paint they used. I want to go skinless but fear the paint losing its feel and getting jacked. I had a case like that had the same feel for my Storm 2 but it started peeling in a month, hence me fearing not putting a case on the DX. I read a CNET article that says the 'feel' has not changed and they have had their unit for over 3 weeks.

Anyone else have comparable data that has went caseless on their phone?
Do you like how thin the phone is caseless and how the texture feels?

I was going naked, rather the phone :D Until I got some dust under the screen. Now my replacement has the carbon fiber case from verizon, and I plan on getting ghost armor for the screen. I figure if I let it go naked, the odds of it getting nicked and scratched are high, and further dust infiltration only increses my desire to use some protection,

I like the sleekness of the DX, so I'm going keep it nekked. Going to throw a screen protector on it and that's about it.

I personally have had it in a case since day 1 (the carbon fiber looking silicone case) and have a VZW anti-glare screen protector on also since day 1. I can tell you right now, I take the case off whenever I go to take pictures, and the feel of this phone without the case is amazing. So smooth, yet gripy. I have yet to see what this screen looks like WITHOUT the glare protector, and from what I heard I'm missing out. I'm just too cautious to risk it for the crisper looks.

I can definitely assure you though, if you go naked and use it constantly you WILL see degradation in the gripy material. Its just the way things work, it can't last forever. So if you want to keep it at best shape for longer, use a case.

But then who are you keeping it in good shape for...the person that buys it when you upgrade in a year or two? Enjoy it while it's yours. The world is supposed to end in 2012 anyways.

Eh I guess I'm just one of those people who try to keep everything of worth value forever lol I dislike damaging or weathering my goods, especially if its something I know I can prevent. The question was about the cases texture life, and how it will be affected over time. I answered that if you want to keep it like that for a long time, expect to use a case.

Now if you don't care about keeping it in tip-top shape for 2 ish years by all means, go caseless and enjoy the feel of it. Just know that it will get weathered over time and once it happens, thats that.

Just be careful with those cases. I live in a desert. I put a Seidio case on my BB, and sand got under there and the top of the phone, under the case is scratched more than if I didn't have a case on it.

Not everyone drives around in desert conditions, with windows open, so it might not be a problem for many.

+1 here. I used to put cases, sleeves onto my cell phones/pda's to keep them new. 1.5 years or so later, I upgrade and then the brand new looking cell gets tossed in the desk drawer. So now, I use and enjoy the new cell phones and when it's time to upgrade, I know I've gotten my worth out of the gadget.

But enjoying it doesn't mean getting it all nicked/scratched up either. While I've been pretty successful in keeping my phone/laptops in great shape (and thus increasing the resale value), I've also enjoyed the use of them.

Yeah exactly. I mean if using something that will protect your $200+ investment is getting in the way of you enjoying the device then by all means, go naked. I'm just saying these minute losses in "enjoyment" aren't enough for many to risk scratching/damaging their devices. Its all about perspective and who is using the device.

If the OP wants to feel his phone up all day, then feel it up he can. He just deserves to know that by doing so constantly for months will most certainly take its toll on that great texture he feels now, while its fresh.

Same here. I had a Seidio Innocase II on my Tour and it wound up scratching the earpiece pretty good.

I've actually decided to go nekkid on my DX and so far so good. Although I do make sure to not put anything else in my pocket with it.

I use the amzer luxma smoke grey case(ebay has knockoffs for 7 bucks that are the same) with a screen protector. I also put the phone in a sunglass microfiber bag to keep the screen clean at all times.

If anything, get the microfiber bag to avoid having an oily screen!!!

I was thinking about getting the seidio innocase active when it comes out. That and possibly a zagg invisible shield.

only thing i have is the VZW screen protector...which i am considering removing because to me it seems to distort the screen a little...

I think this might be the winning compramise between being naked and still protecting the finish.

The amount of touchy feely inuendo in this thread almost requires it to be closed and deleted for the sake of humanity.

But why we are at it, I do love how it feels to be holding it with no protection.

But I am now looking for microfiber bags.

I always have my phones in cases. Ever since my Blackberry 8330. It's not the fact that I don't want it to get nicked and scratched, it's the fact that I am clumsy and dropping the phone naked will surely bring me some terrible consequences. I have mine in the leather kickstand case from Verizon and it is solid as a rock. I have dropped it once or twice already and no damage has come to the phone.

I may also look into the Seidio cases when they (finally) become available as they have always been my go-to case provider.
