I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this in as I have the same issue on both my Note 10.1 2014 edition and my 8.9 LTE. If not get someone please move it to the appropriate forum.

I use POP3 and have my laptop and my iPad set to leave my e-mails on my ISPs server, and my desktop to download all messages and remove them from the server. I want to be able to keep certain e-mails on my laptop and also on my iPad as well as my two Samsung tablets (actually one is my wifes). I need to keep certain e-mails on different devices both for when I am out so I can reference them and I also use the devices for different purposes so it is important to have access to the e-mails I need on a given device and I simply delete the ones not needed.

The problem with the Samsung tablets is that if I do not check the sync e-mail box I cannot fined a way to download the e-mail messages from the server unlike the laptop, desktop and iPad which all have a send receive and no need to sync. If I check the sync e-mail button on the Samsung tablet I get all of the e-mails that are on my ISPs server like I do with my other devices but when I download the messages on my desktop which removes them from my ISPs server they also get deleted from my Samsung tablets but not my laptop or iPad as they are not synced.

I hope I haven't confused anyone but all I want is to be able to download the s-mail onto my Samsung tablets and don't want them deleted when the desktop downloads and takes everything off of the server. I have to think there is a setting somewhere but I can't find it. I was on the phone with Samsung support for half hour or more and he deleted the e-mail account and recreated it and said that there is a setting that has to be made when the account is setup to accomplish what I want to do however after he recreated the account it turns out he couldn't find it and then said it must be a setting somewhere on my computer, which is illogical.

Anyway if someone can help me I would sure appreciate it.

Thank you

Not sure which program can do this but I was thinking that if within the app you are using on your tablet to sync yourve-mails you are able to create a rule or an automatic forward function that would shoot off a copy of all synced mail to a secondary mail client. That way when your primary app syncs and deletes all the mail you still have a copy somewhere else. Maybe a client such as CloudMagic would have this feature. Just throwing this out there and hope you find your solution.

I know exactly what you are looking for, the setting/checkbox to leave mail on server(or not) . I too have various emails that I check during the day, but do not want them taken off the server until I am on my main business desktop machine. Sadly, I have tried many android email clients and have not found one that had this simple setting. My only work around is to remote login to my desktop during the day and check. If I am somewhere with restricted internet access (like my drs office), I use use the web based mail access to check.

Here is what the setting looks like in regular Outlook

If you find an app that had this setting please share ;-)

Thanks for the replies.

I have my laptop, iPad and Samsung tablets all set to leave the messages on the server and all works fine. The only one that takes the messages off the server is my desktop so that all of my e-mails will end up on my desktop. I have my desktop set to manual so it does not download any messages until I specifically manually do it and usually only do that every couple of days so that way I can get my e-mails on my other devices, and choose which ones to keep on which device. When I download onto my desktop only then are the e-mails removed from my ISPs server and that should all work fine except when I do that it also deletes everything off of the Samsung tablets which just seems ridiculous as for the life of me I can't imagine any reason ever that one would want all of their e-mails deleted from their tablet when you download them onto another computer, and yet it seems that Samsung or maybe it is an Android thing, doesn't see it that way.

Many of the e-mails I would like to respond to using my tablet while travelling but can't find a way to keep them on my tablet aside from turning off e-mail sync but then I don't get any of my new e-mails either. Again for the life of me I can't imagine any reason you would want all of your e-mails deleted off of your tablet just because you delete them off of the server. I prefer not to let e-mails pile up on the server so download them at reasonable intervals.

Anyway I am simply repeating myself now so hopefully someone will have a rationale for this or better yet a fix.

I can see where you are coming from as I try to have a similar set up to what you describe. I tink what you are after is a email app that'll either cache your emails as well as sync with your server or alternativley an app that'll let you flag certain emails as a "do not remove" on your ISP's servers. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find one that does either of these as yet. Therefore I just keep all emails synced with the tablet and just download them once a week or so to the desktop or use their browser based Web portal. If you ISP is a large reputable firm you could always drop them an email and ask them if they have any plans for creating an app.

Have you tried K9 Mail? It has POP settings that let you specify whether to remove messages locally when they are deleted on the server, and whether or not to delete messages from the server when you delete them locally. I only have one account that is POP, and I don't use it much but I do see the settings there. My primary accounts are IMAP because it works out a whole lot better for multiple devices, in my opinion.

Only way to keep mails on yours Sammmy tablets, is to manually move emails u want to keep to another folder and that way it wont get deleted when u sync emails. There are sure others emails client that can auto keep copies of emails to internal storage or external storage.

Thanks again for the replies and suggestions.

I'll maybe try K9 and see how that works and alternately setup a folder to keep the e-mails I want on the tablet.

Just find it surprising there is not a way to do it within the Samsung/Android default app.
