Earbud buttons no longer work on phone

Use earbuds to listen to podcasts or Tunein at gym. Used to be able to pause and/or control volume, but no longer. Earbuds not the problem as these functions work on old Galaxy S3. Present phone is LG G3. Only difference is Galaxy runs 4.4.2 and LG is on 5.0.1. I'm pretty sure the problem is in the OS since earbuds once worked fine on both devices.

Welcome to Android Central! Make sure there's no debris (like lint) stuck in the jack, which could potentially interfere with the contacts used by the remote control buttons.
