Easy messaging app?

I have the Samsung and Google messaging apps on my new Galaxy a52 but neither will let me do what I want. I have a TON of old chats/messages/threads that I don't want. Verification codes texted to me, texts from websites, etc. What I want to do is perform a bulk deletion of them then re-start the 3 or 4 conversations I'm actually interested in. Am I missing how to do this?
If not, is there a simple, no frills messaging app that would let me do this? I don't need cutesy filters, GIFs, hi res video. I just want to be able to send a text,maybe include a photo.

In the Google Messages app, if you long-press any message thread, you will enter multi-select mode. You can then tap however many additional threads to add to the selection, and then delete them all by tapping the garbage can icon at the upper right.
