Easy Tether, PDANet or Klink?

Someday I?m gonna jump into USB tethering, but I want opinions first -- please give your thoughts on Easy Tether, PDANet, Klink, or another I haven?t unearthed. To simplify, I have no interest in wireless tethering, just want do Phone As Modem, aka Sayonara PC?s ISP. Thanks and all that...

Okay, twenty-four hours on two forums, no replies, I have to decide myself -- I’m gonna try Klink first just because it’s newer... unless I get talked out of it.

I am amazed, but don’t if it’s because Klink is actually enabling this post or whether I actually made enough correct guesses installing it.

I must’ve done stuff in the wrong order at first; the Droid install, the PC install, the PC drivers, the Droid settings, which to start first, who knows, but it eventually opened the demo links which offered just enough links to prove I was connected.

Then I purchased the full version (another first for me), re-opened the browser with my usual links and here I am. But I might have shot myself in the proverbial foot -- I had the charge slapped onto my Sprint bill, thereby notifying them what I just paid for.

So between you and me, I don’t know why I’m paying fifty bucks a month for an ethernet cable connection anymore -- if Klink is slower, it ain’t bad enough to spook me. I don’t need ultra-bandwidth for my mundane activities, so this works fine.

Anyway, again, I am flat-out amazed!

Caveat: I made note that some reviews complained about the connection dropping. As I wrote the above, that didn’t happen, but now it has. So far, I’ve just had to restart both ends and it comes back.

Have not used klink, but have used the previous two and they work. I find them slow. The comparison is running a speed test on the phone then running the same speed test from the PC.

The other comparison is native tethering from Hero [asop ROM]. It is Fast! Same speed as the speed test ran on the Hero. With PDAnet I get 1/3 the throughput vs native tethering.

It does not look like native tethering is [ever] coming to the Optimus. If it were here I'd use it more often.

After reading this a short time ago, I gave Klink a try.
I'd tried xpdanet prior.
Klink is MUCH faster, and multiple download speed tests gave results of 8-10mb downloads and 1-2mb uploads.
Surfing seems just as fast as my cable modem, at most times.
Even had 6 secure windows open at once, no hiccups.
Great app, and for 3 bucks, great deal. Thanks for the thread.

Unless You Can Help, I Give Up

Hi, I’m the guy that had his Optimus S replaced and had to reinstall
Klink at the PC end to get Klink to connect again. Before the swap it
worked okay, not fast, kinda slow, rather like dialup. Now, on a
Sunday evening, it’s a dead dog -- takes forever. I tweedled around
with suggested settings to no avail, put it all back the way it was (I
think).

I’ve done all this (a) out of curiosity and (b) to pretend I’ve dumped
my ISP, in an effort to save here and there. But right now it appears
that they win. Tethering (or at least with Klink) is amazing but can’t
mimick my cable ISP that I’m all too accustomed with. Oh well, just
four bucks for a backup connection if ISP takes a nap...

I've been using EasyTether lite for a few weeks and the speed is acceptable. Loved the wireless hotspot but that went bye-bye at the last upgrade which I did by mistake.

I used pda net with my old htc eris on verizon was amazing and eventhough my verizon 3g was not so strong at my country farm house it was still blazing fast.... now my pc wont recognize my new sprint lg.... (addded info) (and with the pda i was able to stream netflix and watch on the 46"lcd home tv via the vga monitor port on my visio)

quick question. can two optimus v phones use the same easy tether set up. what i mean is. is everything installed on the pc configured to one phone or can both me and my girlfriend both using optimus v phones and both loving easy tether use this app thanks for your input

The PC doesn't look for a specific phone, just the application running. Using 1 of 2 different phones and varying which one shouldn't be an issue.

My bad, this is for Klink, I have no idea of easy tether's setup.
