Echo with HTC One X and GROM bluetooth handsfree kit

Hi all, this is my first post so I hope this makes sense.

I am using one of these:

GROM Audio Car Bluetooth Extension for GROM-USB, GROM-MST3 and GROM-IPD3

with this:

Volvo 01-06 USB Android iPod iPhone Bluetooth AUX adapter

I have mounted the mic close to my face and fiddled with the mic gain and speaker volume but cannot get rid of the echo that people calling me hear. I have asked GROM for support and they say try another phone. A sound engineer friend says maybe the phone isn't activating it's echo cancellation when paired to the GROM unit - there is no echo in the HTC speakerphone mode so it is possible to operate without echo. I have ordered a unidirectional microphone as maybe the mic that comes with my kit is omnidirectional and picking up the speakers.

Is there any app or setting I can look at to ensure the phone knows it's in handsfree mode when paired to this kit? Is there an echo cancellation setting in my phone or echo cancellation app available? I'm out of my depth a bit.

Cheers, Huw

I have the exact same issue with my One X. If I pair my corporate blackberry or my wifes iPhone to it everything works great, but when using my One X callers complain they hear themselves, even if I turn the car speaker volume down... Have you found any solutions?

Not yet but I have emailed HTC support. I'm hoping the directional mic will help a bit.
