no, rooting is not illeagel, its not even a violation of your contract, just voids warrenty. they dont care that much.

+1 it would cost them more money to figure out ways to catch people who root than just swaping out messed up phones. The % of people that actually root their phones is not worth it.

Not sure, I thought it had to be downloaded off a server directly to your computer. But I could be off base.

I noticed that - I think it says it removes geotagging from the camera since that feature "does not exist" in our phones...except that it does, or at least it started working for me the first time I rooted and installed a custom ROM.

I kind of like geotagging so I'm not sure I'd want to add an update that removes it right now.

Wow, epic hokem if that's the truth... I like geotagging too and I was pretty sure it was just the camera APK that allowed it, since all the leaks of froyo had it enabled. It got disabled, as far as i can tell, in the official ED01 release (i know the option is missing from mine) so why would verizon bother with this update?

Not enough change for me to load it. After doing the ESN process to fix the 3G dropping my device is running great with Comm1.3.

If its just a camera fix then by flashing com rom you completely undo ed03 as com rom has a hacked up camera. That alos means that no changes were made to the modem. As fas as we ar a concerned ed01 and 03 are the exact same.

I know i am new but i've been searching the web and the phone for the wireless tether thats untrackable by verizon and maybe this is a Verizon slip in on us to stop tethering. the web is full of msgs about the big four cracking down on tetherings. they want to put a stop to all whom use it. the web pages i read shows the crack but no way could i get to it..Verizon has placed a stop of somekind on our phones and they will not download the tethering programs that let you use tethering to get a free hook to the laptop.
just a thought but i wouldnt trust Verizon in a crapper with a muzzle on. they are money hungry and also Verizon from what i've read will soon stop offering unlimited data usage.
personally,, i believe the ED03 is Verizons spy...

If this is true then they can choke on a big banana when my contract is up. Although it would hurt them in the carrier market. I don't think they would be that dumb to do that.

It won't affect those that already have the unlimited data package, will just screw over new customers. They will most likely turn to a tiered layout of data plans. It's a crappy thing to do, but we're just puppets on strings to them.

i didnt get the info from an yone in particular but i have been reading for hours about the big four crackdown..

As someone who really only needs 3g data to get google nav directions and play words with friends while at work, I can say that a less than unlimited data plan along with a less than $30 price would be a welcome change. Sadly, what will likely happen is the $30 a month, unlimited (or "more than any sane person without illegal tethering could ever rack up") plan will still be "required to take advantage of the full smartphone experience" or some similar bull. I am just counting the days til my fascinate is out of contract and I can take my business to a MVNO that understands what it's like to need to compete on price.

so far its a 2.1 update 1 not much from where it was when bought. i'm resetting because i intend to carry phone back tomorrow for a swap out.. my speaker is done for...
