Verizon Galaxy S8 Edge Display and Notifications Don't Play Well Together

Have any of you experienced the annoying feature where the edge panel will close itself upon receiving a notification? For example, if I have the edge panel open and receive a text message notification via Textra, the panel will close and bring me back to whatever screen I opened the panel in front of. If anyone else is experiencing this or knows a fix I would be very interested to hear, thanks!

First thought would be you have Textra set to be "on top" of other apps.
