Edge lighting effects not all working.

I have only been able to use the basic effect. The other choices seem to work, but then it just gives the basic effect. Is there something I can do to fix this?

I've only ever seen Edge lighting work with the default Samsung messaging app (blue light). I've tried setting it to work with other apps but so far no dice.
