Edge lighting for notifications gone?

I set up my phone to display light patterns on the edges of the screen when I received texts.

It worked fine until the recent update.

Now the edge of the screen doesn't light up at all.

I thought maybe something changed in the menu, but I can't even find the menu now!

Has the edge lighting feature been deleted in this new update?

If not, please tell me how I can find the menu in settings.

Yay, I figured it out!

The "side lighting" (not "edge light" like I was searching!) option only works if your notification style is set to 'Brief'. The 'Detailed' option eliminates the side lighting feature.

I had to do a lot of digging to get this figured out, and I hope this information helps others who need it!

I recently realized my Edge Lighting is no longer working either. I think maybe that stopped when I switched from Samsung Messages to Google Messages, but I can't be certain. I hadn't changed anything other than that. Anyone else have their Edge lighting notifications still work with Google Messages?

In Android11 for Samsung A21, it's still there as part of "brief" notifications. I have it set-up but honestly, it's not really that useful for me. With an audio cue coming in and then also either an icon or number up in the status bar, the edge/side lighting is almost just a gimmick (unless I just don't know how to use it).

So that confirms then it does not work for you either. I have the settings, but it doesn't work. Previously I had the setting working in OneUi 2.5 for sure, but I still used Samsung Messages back then. My wifes still works on OneUI 3.1, but she still uses the default Samsung Messages app.

Well I made a bunch of changes and then changed things mostly back to how they were and Edge Lighting is now working - I think. I did witness it lighting up my blank screen while it was on standby for a notification I had from one app. Nothing for Google Messages though. I guess it just doesn't work for Google Messages.

Ok so here's something weird. I actually saw the Edge Lighting go off for a text yesterday - but it only seems to do that for RCS chat messages only, not regular old SMSs. Strange. I have no idea what would be different about them to make it work like that.

I had to "reset app preferences" the other day, certain notifications for certain apps just wouldn't show up in the status bar. That eventually brought them back for me, although a pain in the butt because I had restricted a bunch of apps in certain ways and now I have to try and go back in and adjust all those again. I have no idea if that might also help you for your irregular edge lighting issue, but maybe worth considering.
