So I have got this Samsung S8 phone here in Australia. Edge lighting is driving me nuts as I am not getting it for Whatsapp partially. I only get it when I have enabled whatsapp Popup notifications which I dont want to. Following settings yield various results:
1) Whatsapp Popup notification = Always OR Only when screen ON + Edge Lighting Always = Edge Lighting when screen is ON
2) Whatsapp Popup notification = No Popup OR Only when screen OFF + Edge Lighting Always = No Edge Lighting
To sum it up I can't get edge lighting notifications for whatsapp when screen is off.
