Edge lighting

I never heard of this app, but tried it and it works perfectly on the s21U. So glad you mentioned it because I was missing my LED lighting up on my old phone. So thanks!

Oh that's great to hear! I have it on the new phone I just need to go home and look at my old phone cuz I just want to take a glance at my settings cuz I forgot exactly how I set it up. I guess I can turn off edge lighting and start using that later when I get home from work.

I actually haven't tried AOD notify yet but I guess I should. I was wanting to compare my old settings before I reset my old phone. I have edge lighting set up but I don't think mine goes off on the screen's off neither occasionally I see it go off. But the aod notify was really nice on my S10 plus cuz I had the bigger double camera and it lit up around the camera and I think I had it light up around the edges I don't remember now. But I like the edge lighting rainbow effect too that I have set up now.

Glad to hear it works on the S21 series. I really like that app since Samsung took away the LED notification. At one point I was using Holey Light and that had a bunch of nice features too. I could never get Edge lighting to work properly.

I just got the UI 3 update today. I thought that my Edge Lighting in the past would have a different color that I chose, for the app that worked. For example, Messages was purple, email blue. But now it appears those colors only appear via the AODNotify app and it is around my camera. The actual Edge Lighting is only one color. Did something change? How can I also have the Edge Lighting be the color of the particular app that was notifying me?

I posted another thread about this, but I hate how the edge lighting setting can't apply to screen off only. I want to see edge lighting while my phone is on my desk and the screen is off. I don't like seeing edge lighting as I'm using my phone and texts are coming through...

I agree with you - that is a tad annoying, especially since you are already using your phone in the first place and would more than likely noticing the incoming notification. No need for Edge Lighting, in that case.

It's even more absurd when edge lighting ONLY works when the phone display is on, lol. I have all the proper settings enabled, but edge lighting doesn't come on when the display is off. Useless.

I believe its still there, In the edge lighting menu if you go to the middle where it says color and choose that left button that says "app color" the edge lighting lights up colors based on the app. But you cant change the colors yourself. I just tried it and i got blue for email, green for messages. I saw something about color also about adding specific words. I never used or seen that before. Imma try it out now.

That is definitely a useless feature, then! I currently have an S10 with the new update so I'm wondering if this is the case on my device, as well.

I haven't even noticed so the edge lighting doesn't work when the phone is off? and I thought mine used to be different colors for different apps but I don't really remember cuz I quit and started using aod notify. But I turned it off on this phone and was going to try edge lighting again but I've only seen it light up a couple times and now that I think about it my screen was on I believe.

I just found this out today when using google maps with navigation. If you turn off the screen, when there is an important info like turn here, or merge there it pops up in edge lighting. I thought that was pretty cool. I know i didnt have that in my old phone.

Tip: if you want to check if Edge lighting is working. Text your self at your own number and hit the power button quick after you hit send. To see if it works while the screen is off.

I'm still trying to figure this out, too. I'm pretty sure that texts and Facebook noticiations will "wake" my locked phone as far as setting off the Edge Lighting. But I need to pay closer attention for the rest, I suppose.

How is AOD Notify? From what I've heard, it's an app that other users download often.

I've used AOD notify for the past few years with no issues. The problem with the native edge lighting, it only works with stock apps with screen off. Or at least that has been my experience. AOD Notify works with all apps. Extremely customizable. Would recommend

I don't know what version or model of edge lighting y'all have but I've never had any issues with it , it works as it should everytime out of the box.

Screen on and off it lights up, All apps work with it and not just stock. But I will say this version that shipped with the s21 is a bit more limited. As in you can't turn it off when the screen is on.

Yeah aodnotify has more customization, the native edge works for all apps if you have it toggled on , colors for native edge lighting can choose one color for all or by app color Screenshot_20210223-113904_Nova%20Launcher.jpg

I was just messing with Edge lighting cause I used glitter and I like the fireworks one and noticed I could make it purple. But when I clicked on app color to do specific apps nothing came up like no list of apps to choose different colors. Unless I missed something. I haven't REALLY HAD AOD Notify on yet for a day am off all week so will try it one day and see if it drains battery more and if so how much.

When you select apps like in my screen shot it will use that apps default color , can't change that.

Sorry I got confused so it will use which apps default color? So can I have different colors for different apps is that a whole different setting. I do notice when I chose purple it showed messages I think as purple. I'll have to look again.

Yeah default app color , if you choose a color then all come that way , I believe aodnotify can change that though
