Edge lighting.

I'm thinking of sending this 1 back for another 1.
Damn 1 problem buying online

Well I was on IG and just notice the edge lighting working. While I was on it I got a notification of im or someone responded to a comment I made on there.
And notice the edge lighting going off.
Is that how edge lighting is suppose to work?
Meaning it's not on all the time when u have a app open? It only works on certain times?
So if I'm on fb or watching YouTube, when is the edge lighting suppose to work?

When faced down, the edge lighting feature lights up the edge screen when you receive calls or notifications. You can color code up to five contacts that will appear in their respective colors when they get in touch, while all other calls or notifications will be shown in neutral bright light.

Ok I c. My thought or thinking was that edge lighting was suppose to work more than just notification and such.

Like I said, i was on ig browsing and all of sudden the edge lighting worked to my surprised.

So when u have the edge light set for fb or YouTube, gmail etc. When is the the edge lighting suppose to work for those apps?

I was thinking of returning this phone but if the edge lighting is to work how its intended, meaning not all the time than I guess I'll keep this phone.

There has been times on browsing on ig and someone sends me a message through ig and I didn't c the edge light going off. Except for that 1 time yesterday.
Same goes for Facebook.
So I'm just curious when does the edge lighting work. Just randomly?

From doing some research some people can't get edge lighting to work at all on some phones without downloading a third party app. But even than edge lighting won't work with some phones.

I was getting text messages but my edge lighting wasn't working. And I'm using Samsung provided text message app.
So, I don't get it. I guess certain phones have better luck than others.

I only have it enabled for Textra. What kind of notifications does youtube send?

I have no idea. Like I said in my earlier post, the edge lighting hardly ever works. Its suppose to work when you get notification. I was getting text messages while the screen was turned off and no edge lighting. The only screen notification I get is a sound and also on top of the screen I get a notice (a slider).
That's about it.
Maybe it's a defect with some of these phone. S8, so and note 9.
And Samsung doesn't seem to care cause there is no fix for it.

That I'm not sure. It would be nice if the lighting did work for phone calls.

So far it seems to work only for notifications. If you get a text or if u use the calendar for reminders.
For certain apps it doesn't seem to work.
I've notice working once for my ig app. But I don't think it works for fb, YouTube Twitter apps.

Not sure if it works for snapchat either.

I only notice that it works for texts and calendar when I get reminders I set up

Yeah. I might have to download an app to control contacts edge lighting.

That's the thing I didn't want to do. I don't want to dl a 3rd party app. It should work with most apps. I think Samsung is just lazy
