Care to share any more detail as to what exactly isn't working? Is it working with the screen on? At all? Do you get any notifications or none at all? Is it specific apps? Did you follow the instructions to enable the 'Fix' app in Edge Lighting? Do you have any notification apps that might be interfering (like LightFlow) or Do Not Disturb (or similar) phone modes that might be blocking notifications? Do you get notified if Edge Lighting is disabled or that's not working either?
Are your notifications set to 'pop up'? Again, without the 'Fix' app (which is only supposed to work for the screen OFF), do your notifications work with Edge Lighting and the screen ON? (If that's not working, the 'Fix' app will do nothing)
Have you made sure that Edge Lighting is active AND set to 'Always'?
OK. First let's try to get them to work with the screen ON. Some of these steps might sound dumb, but better safe than sorry.
A) Make sure your phone isn't on Do not Disturb or Battery Saving or anything that might block notifications.
B) Go to Settings, Display, Edge Screen and make sure the Edge Lighting toggle is active.
C) In there, tap the Edge Lighting option and make sure that you select an obvious Lighting Style (just so you don't miss it when it's happening; no transparencies, bright color, long animation...something). Make sure that Choose Apps is showing ALL AVAILABLE APPS, and that Show Edge Lighting is set to ALWAYS.
D) Pick an app you know you can easily test notifications with (messaging app if you have a second phone or e-mail). Now go to that app's Notification settings (Settings, Apps, find the app and tap it, go to 'Notifications' in the App Settings section). Make sure that the toggles are set to SHOW NOTIFICATIONS and if you tap a specific action (depending on the app it might be different actions/channels) and make sure that those are set to ALERT, that the 'Show as pop-up- toggle is on (this one is critical for Edge Lighting!) and at least for now, set 'Ignore Do not Disturb' to ON.
Test away.
You have to tap the specific notification channel (for instance, for GMail, you'd have to find the section for your account and tap the MAIL item, which will open up a new window with more options; that's where the pop-up option is).
Also, do you have a smart watch by any chance? sometimes these can be set to intercept all phone notifications, which makes them not show up on your phone.
What about notifications without Edge Lighting (like 'normal' notifications). Do you get those?
If somehow you got them deactivated (pop-up is the default notification behavior), yes... unfortunately you do have to go one by one
And it depends on the app, since now Android (in my opinion, complicated) changed things to introduce notification 'channels', so each app has different 'channels' for different notification types. For Messages it might be a simple 'New Message' or something like that, for e-mail it's the Mail item under each account...but those apps will still have other types of notifications that you might want to personalize (or not), and not all have customization options. Usually they're self-explanatory, though.
Some apps still aren't working, like FB Messenger. I have pop up enabled for that one.
For FB Messenger I think you have to disable chat-heads IIRC. Or might be a different 'channel' that you have to set to Pop Up.
For FB Messenger in particular it's inside the app itself (chat heads toggle in the app Settings). But yes, the Smart Pop-Up view is in Advanced Features (for all apps).
It is. Pop-up view is basically chat heads for all apps. I hate it so I've never used it. Not sure if that one interferes with Lighting or not. Messenger in particular has its own chat-heads feature, and that's the one that, if enabled, I'm not sure if it interferes with Lighting because it does use the notifications in a different way (on the chat head).
