Edge panel help

OK so I'm pretty new to this phone but I keep accidently touching my screen while it's locked and the edge panel appears (Black screen, time on panel, date, weather etc)

What do I keep pressing/touching/doing for this to appear so I can bring it up when I want?

I find that I can only get the Information Stream to work about 25% of the time. I just found this reference that describes all the edge features that we paid extra for.

Swipe upwards then downwards when the screen is locked

Sounds simple in theory but never really seems to actually work.

You would think that for the extra cost of the curved screen and edge panel, it would work properly.. If the curved screen on an edge phone cracks, you would be looking at around £150-200 for a repair
