Email App - Wifi access to Exchange Servers?

Has anyone tried access Exchange accounts when connected only by wifi?

To test this out, I went to airplane mode, then turned on wifi. I sent myself emails to my gmail and exchange accounts (from a computer, not my phone). I immediately got notification of my gmail message. The email app states that it is "Unable to open connection to server."

Does the email app require carrier data connectivity? Wouldn't that imply that I won't get this type of email in a data-roaming situation if I turn off the ability to roam data?

Hahahaha! I was testing from a WiFi network that was specifically blocking access to the Exchange server I was trying to access.

Testing from another one showed that it worked fine.

Whoops. :-)
