email help for Note 4

Comcast email is POP3 unless, as rcobourn pointed out, you have transferred your email account through Comcast to imap. Email through POP3 does not support push delivery, on an iPhone or Android, it is polled on a fetch schedule and you set those parameters in the email app on the device. If you want to use the stock email app, make sure your email server settings are correct for Comcast. The incoming server should be set at mail.comcast.net port 995, the outgoing mail server should be set at smtp.comcast.net port 587, SSL should be on and authenticate with your Comcast ID and password. You can set the frequency of the fetch schedule to suit your needs.
I also use a Comcast account that I have had for a long while. I set my Comcast account to forward to my Gmail account. That way as soon as any email hits my Comcast account it is immediately forwarded to my Gmail and I get it instantly without having to wait on a fetch schedule or use a manual refresh. I have also set my Gmail account to allow the use of my Comcast email address as a reply from, so when I'm replying to email through my Gmail account I can choose my Gmail or Comcast email as the replying email address. This an alternative you may want to consider.

Well I just got off the phone with Comcast. They claim that they do not support IMAP...only POP3. I suspect that the folks that are indicating that in setting up comcast.net as an incoming IMAP account that worked for a few days and stopped working probably have it more right than the rest of us. Those that have it working now may find as they did that it will stop working at some point.

Comcast further stated that the exfinity Connect product is not quite "pushing" in the sense that it is dong it on a schedule. It is grabbing up my incoming emails as they come in and just sending them on to my mobile device. It is completely disassociated from the comcast.net account that i also have on my N4. As we have discussed here, I only get emails on my N4 in the comcast.net account if I manually sync for them. There is no Automatic (push) option in comcast.net in Managed Accounts. This according to Comcast IS device specific. My iPhone would have continued to receive emails without me having to manually sync the comcast.net email account and in fact that is how it worked for all those years.

So I am not going to complicate my life further with more applications etc etc, at least not with a good reason. exfinity Connect with some limitations seems to get me my emails without my having to manually sync. I think I will leave the comcast.net account in place unless somebody here thinks that is a bad idea for some reason and I will manually sync it if I feel the need. I will just keep the number of emails in that application down to a dull roar. That seems to be all the news that counts for now. Please feel free to further comment. I would be happy to discuss the topic and learn more.

Didn't see if anyone mentioned or not but the phone also won't save push or sync settings if master sync is not turned on in the phone settings.

nugj, I'd suggest you get a free Outlook or Gmail account then forward all your comcast email to it. Then gradually tell others to use the new account. I have comcast too and I only use it for stores and loyalty programs etc. Even the support people at Comcast don't know what they are doing half the time. Then separately, try Blue Mail. It's free and it is easy to use and set up and support is incredibly responsive. It has push or fetch and supports about every type of account I have heard of. I got it for MS Exchange based on someone's referral in another forum and I love it.

And generally, once you learn Android I think you'll find it intuitive but that it has options and capabilities I don't see in my daughter's iPhone. you'll learn how to fix things yourself instead of being in those big lines I see at the Apple stores...
