Email issue - not syncing

I'm not sure if this is hardware or software but from time to time, my email client stops getting emails. These has happened a number of times since going to froyo (it never occurred on 2.1).

A reboot resolves this problem, but its only after I notice it. That is, I may not notice the lack of emails for a day, and by then, the outage has caused issues since I failed to address some business need.

While I'm not getting emails, the web seems to work, I'm gettin/sending txts and just about every other feature of the phone is working. This leads me to think its not a hardware issue.

I may end up calling verizon, but they may send me a new (refurb) phone which won't resolve my problem and being a refurb, I could introduce other headaches.

Is this with the stock email client? I've had the same issue with the stock email client and finally got sick of it and switched to K-9 Mail.

Yes, its the stock email client but I noticed this with touchdown as well. In fact because of this issue, I uninstalled touchdown and went with the stock app.

Not to be too negative, but I'm not expecting a 100% fix anytime soon. I have had this same bug ever since 2.2

It happens pretty randomly and rebooting the phone usually solves the problem. I've just gotten into a routine of restarting my phone every morning.

Have you ever tried this...

Put the Power Control Widget on one of your home screens and make sure that the sync control is on/active. I've read a few post where something unknown turned the sync off.

Possibly something on your phone is unexpectedly turning off the sync (an app/game that you don't use so often). Maybe you could leave the power control widget on your main home screen for a few days (using it as a monitoring tool) and see if the sync ever gets turned off. If another app is doing it, you'd probably be able to notice when it goes off and then get rid of the offending app.

You need to check a few settings...

Settings > Data Manager > Data Delivery > check to enable Background Data, Data Roaming and Data Enabled.

Then Settings > accounts > Gmail account > check to enable data and sync for Contacts, Gmail and Calendar.

I use Gmail to fetch my Pop3 accounts, so Gmail is the only account I have on the X. However, if you have separate accounts for each Pop3 address, check settings in each to make sure sync and data delivery is enabled.

I had that problem the other day with my g-mail account. Somehow it decided not to sync and to this day I can't figure out how. I checked everything... Except my gmail settings (I'm still way too new to my phone!!!) so a friend checked it and the check next to sync wasn't lit... Did that, pulled the battery and what not and it worked again...

Verizon's solution at first was for me to do a battery pull.... I shouldn't have to do a battery pull on a week old phone!!!

I'm having experience everything on this tread. From time to time I will clear and read all email in exchange, zero unread, then sync and my phone will show emails unread. I have two options, go and retouch all emails or delete account and re-add to re-sync the device. Then it shows the correct email unread counts.

Anyone else seeing this issue?
