Email notifications only for priority senders on Samsung Galaxy S4

I don't want to get notification for emails in general - since I get hundreds of emails every day, but I do want to get notified when e-mails come in from priority contacts. (I'm using a gmail account and the stock email app (I don't like the gmail app). I'm using UK Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 on the latest Android Lollipop OTA update from Samsung.)

Can anyone advise how to do this? So far, I either get all e-mails notified, or none at all

I thought this would do the- trick but it doesn't seem to work:
Email App > Settings > Priority sender settings > switch on email notifications and set notification sound to Whistle

But I get no notifications, unless I also select this setting:

Email App > Settings > Manage Accounts > select gmail account > tick email notifications and set notification sound to Postman

I then get notifications for all emails, not just ones from priority senders (admittedly priority emails then make the Whistle sound instead of the Postman sound - but I'd get notification sounds several times an hour).

Is there some other setting somewhere? Note I don't have priority mode / do no disturb mode switched on.

I also have this problem with notifications from the stock email app, only I am accessing an exchange server account on an S5 neo (G903F) running 5.1.1.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

If you have a notification sound named Silent then you can do this - it worked on my Galaxy S6. If you don't have a 'Silent' sound already available you can always create a Silent.mp3 file and copy it to your Phone\Notifications folder.

Email App > Settings > Priority sender settings > Turn on email notifications. Set notification sound to whatever you want it to be for priority mail. I used a custom 15 second .mp3 file that gradually gets louder for 15 seconds because I am using it as a pager.

Email App > Settings > Manage Accounts > select the email account where you expect to receive the important messages > Turn on email notifications and set the notification sound to 'Silent.'
