Email says "not enough device storage"?! I just added an 8G SD card!

My Device Storage shows me total space of 16G, then it breaks down what's using how much. The problem is, for example, that "downloads" shows using 4.7G, but the largest download in that secion is only 1.9M (and I don't have a lot of downloads, either). Also, "miscellaneous files" shows using 6.4G - but again, the largest user is only 11.4M. Again with "Applications"; it shows 3.8G used, but the largest app is only 300M and it goes down from there. Even if the combined apps used every iota of that 3.8G, it's nowhere near 16G. So why is my email - which uses hardly any space - telling me I'm out of space, when I'm apparently using so little on my local storage, and virtually nothing on my SD card?

Incidentally, I just wiped my disk cache and it did no good. Still getting the error. I never had these kinds of inane storage error problems with my iPhone. I'm starting to regret getting this Galaxy. It's been a constant problem for an entire week now.

The Android OS does not use the SD Card like extended memory. To get more room in your phone memory you need to move pictures, music and videos to the sd card. Delete any apps you do not need or really use! Some games take lots of memory for the action scenes.
Do a search for SD Card or Memory on this forum and you will find a lot more information and ways to work around this problem!

I moved ALL photos, videos, and music onto my SD card. This doesn't explain why I wasn't getting this email error *before* I moved all these files and *before* I got an SD card.

I have looked everywhere and so far have not found a solution to this problem.

Simple solution: Do not use internal memory to store your files. Use internal SDcard (yes, it's not normal EXTERNAL SDCARD, but directory as NMT or SDCARD) Use LINK2SD to better manage of your device. (But should be rooted)

That's fine - but how do I make the change so all stored files are on my SD card? Also, I can't even access my Yahoo mail; it tells me "not enough space in device storage...."

Go To Settings, More, Storage and tell us how much AVAILABLE SPACE you have available and How much AVAILABLE SPACE you have under SD CARD.

Install this simple little app called Storage Truth. It's very small and will install in very limited space. It will tell you how much space you actually have left for installing apps:

To make space you can:
Delete texts or emails. If you have a lot saved on the phone, this can help.
Delete or move photos, videos, documents, etc.
Uninstall app updates.
Uninstall apps.
Clear cache files. However, this will only make space temporarily as cache files will rebuild over time. Also, while clearing cache files won't hurt anything, they're there to speed up operation and should be left alone.

If you can't move stuff to a SD card, move them to your computer or cloud storage.

Android since v1.0. Linux user since 2001.

Device memory > available space is 38.32MB (Misc. files are 6.49GB? What's that?)

Downloads are 5.11GB and Applications are 3.81GB. I've deleted most apps that I don't use, but the thing is, I wasn't getting these "not enough memory" messages before I deleted them and moved so much over onto the SD card.

SD card > available space is 8.90GB

You need to remove or delete some more apps or data! Go to SETTINGS, MORE, APPLICATION MANAGER. Hit the MENU button and set to SORT BY SIZE! This will show you what is using your memory! The biggest APPS will show at the top of the list!

I just deleted a bunch of stuff. I now see over 400MB of available space. I went back to check my Yahoo email. When I clicked the refresh icon, I get "Not enough space in device storage."

Am I storing my emails locally or something?

Is the space you cleared in the same space email is saved? You need to make room in /data. That's the same place apps are installed , among other things that go there.

If you already have cleared space there, go to:
Settings > Apps > Select your email app > Force stop > Clear cache.
Then reboot the phone and try your email again.

So I can read my email now. But I again can't view anything in Gallery - pictures, videos, anything. Storage tells me that I have 119MB available, but the error popup tells me I have 0MB?! Are you kidding me? I'm really starting to regret buying a Samsung Galaxy. This has been an ongoing thorn in my side for weeks now.

You're gonna have trouble until you make more space in /data. You'll have to move or delete some stuff in there, you have no choice.

I too am having this issue. "Delete apps", "move files" etc is fine, but I'm more concerned with the root cause - I want to find out what specific apps are being memory hogs before I start moving and deleting things.

Unfortunately it appears to Android file manager doesn't show all the files. I have 16.0GB of memory, and my Settings shows that I only have 438MB free; thus implying that I have over 15GB used. However when I add up all the file space used by each directory (from Local Storage -> Device storage; select each and view Details), it only adds up to 2.9 GB!

Is there any way to view this data correctly - to see what specific files and directories are actually using up all the memory?

I've had the same problem. I've got almost nothing on my phone (1 small pic, no video, no documents, added only a couple of apps and deleted more) yet it tells me there's no space for e-mails. Deleting some e-mails doesn't do anything. But the problem comes and goes, which is really annoying!
