So i recently downloaded a GBA emulator for my Samsung Captivate. I have honestly not used an emulator before and am confused as to how to get the game ROMs onto my phone. When i try to download them off site through the device browser, they come as .zip files. I downloaded AndroZip from the market to deal with this but whenever i try to use that to extract the downloaded ROMs it says it "unzip operation failed". How do i solve this problem?

Have you tried to just open the Zip files with your emulator? This is how I play my NES roms in Nesoid. no unzip required.

yea, when i go into the emulator and go to search for ROMs, i click on the "download" file and it says "no appropriate files in this folder"

That is interesting...

Which emulator are you using? It's possible you've gotten some bad roms, but I'm just guessing at this point.

im using GameBoid...it has mainly sparking reviews in the market. i have tried like 4 different roms. In fact, the app itself give you a site for a rom search engine.

I also just downloaded gensoid and whenever i got to load roms, it takes me to the screen that has the controller buttons on it, but all i get is a black screen otherwise. had this happen with 3 different gensoid roms... getting frustrated haha

Have you tried Nesoid? I've ran like 7 roms on mine so far, had one rom that wouldn't show up in the list (bad I assume) and one that wouldn't run worth crap.

and fwiw I didn't use the built in search provider for my roms, I used Google and found some sites I've used in the past.

now i'm having the problem where i pointed gameboid to the bios file but every time i try to load a rom it says load bios failed

now i just fixed it by downlaoding another bios file

The NES emulator will load roms that are zipped. The other emulators that I have used require you to download them to your computer, unzip them, and load the file onto your phone. Google "PSX4droid" to see how to get the PSX emulator to work. The SuperNES and Gensoid emulators don't require a bios, atleast I didn't have to load one, to use. You can also try the app AndroZip to unzip downloaded roms on your phone. I haven't tried it yet but looks like it will work.

I've been having a problem with Gensoid as well, on my Dinc. I've downloaded three ROMs so far, and none have worked. Two bring up a black screen with the button layout, which then goes away, and the third simply brings up a black screen for a second. I got the lite version, I would like to buy the full version, but I really need it to work first.

Everyone: discussing how to illegally obtain ROMs and/or emulator bios files is strictly forbidden on these boards. Infractions will be issued and this thread will be closed if I see any such discussion. This is your warning.

I'm also having trouble getting my emulator to work, it's my first time using one as well... it either exits the ROM immediately or shows a black or white screen.

I'm using GameBoid v1.10.8 and .GBA files... I got the exact application and files (including bios) from a friend. He has a Droid and it works perfectly

Its not an issue with the roms, its an issue with the unzipping the files. It says operation failed when trying to unzip. If it successfully unzips, the rom works fine.

It might be the roms. Try going to freeroms or coolrom.Com
