Hi

I am looking for some help.

My enable notifications for Messages and calls on my Note 9 is greyed out, so i only get the flashing
blue and green light to let me know i have missed calls or messages, no number on the app. Can someone help me
fix this little annoying problem.

Welcome to Android Central! It's greyed out, but it's set to on, so that means notifications should be coming through. Are you saying you don't get an audible notification of an incoming message?

Hi thanks for the welcome and reply mate.

I get an audible notification, just not the number that appears on the app face telling me how many calls i have missed, or messages, its not that bigger deal mate, just my granddaughter was playing games on it, i thought maybe she had unintentionally touched a setting.

That feature is often in the homescreen settings. Tap any empty part of the homescreen, then look for a settings option. See if you can find an option there for app icon badges.

Nothing appears on home screen when i tap it, but i looked in the notification settings for both calls & messages, and Icon badges are highlighted as on mate

Try going to Settings>Notifications>Advanced Settings, and see if there's an option there for App Icon Badges: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10002521/

Part of the challenge here is that you're using a pretty old phone that stopped getting updates a few years ago, so the One UI settings menus now might be a little different from the version you have. @mustang7757, are you familiar with the menu setup for Android 10 on a Note9? I'm not sure which version of One UI that is.

Back in that time I believe was Samsung experience UI
If it's greyed out that was done by Samsung , I don't have a device that old to verify anything but can switch to Google's messages which is always getting updated

Right, but OP is asking about getting icon badges. Do you remember where that setting is on that version of the UI?

I would try tapping on New messages in OP screenshot and should take to submenu and see what's available there

Sorry for the late reply guys.

, My Mrs was watching Big Brother, she said give it to me I will look at it, she pretty much knows nothing about phones, and how they work, well she has left me gob smacked, she has sorted the problem, and another niggle I had, Google assistant had appeared on my home screen, and try as I may, I could not remove it, well she even managed to get that off my home screen,... I asked how she managed it, all she would say, she removed some apps our granddaughter had added, about 300+ game apps, and she deleted the correct ones,???.. How can you sit and watch that rubbish Big brother, and manage to fix a mobile problem, God I will ever hear the end of it lol

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated
Regards

Brian

Btw, to make the homescreen settings appear (+ Widgets, Themes, Wallpaper & style – where you can enable "Show app badges - Numbers).... it requires a long press on an 'empty part of the homescreen', rather than just a 'tap'. At least it always has on our Samsungs.

Thanks for that -- I was thinking long-press, but for some reason typed "tap." Derp! 😖

Oh yeah! Why didn't we think of that?! 🫣🫡
Lol .yeah it's an important setting that most don't know the short cut with long pressing empty page on the home screen so it has to be in the phone settings for easier access but us Nerds know the short cuts
