Enable only app notification / disable native Android notification?

[Android Central Question]

Running Android 7.1, non-root. Use Textra SMS app. Textra has popup notifications which show most/all of longer messages, which is helpful; native Android notification is only 1-2 lines. What I'd like to do, if possible, is enable ONLY the Textra popup and disable the Android -- but so far everything I've tried only disables them both -- that is, turning off native Android notifications also turns off any Textra notifications. Does anyone know if it's possible to do this? THX

You should see option to keep one as default, but I can help you more if you give the more information
