Enough With the LG G3 Comparisons

^^^I seem to remember you once mentioning you were an aerospace physicist....hopefully it's not possible to be that AND a tech moron at the same time.☺

Good memory :) Keep in mind that my aerospace engineering degree was a long time ago and I have a master's degree and Ph.D in theoretical physics from MIT. I'm in the latter half of also getting my Ph.D in mechanical engineering from MIT. Physics examines physical observation and, in my case, aviation. I'm a theoretical physicist, as opposed to solid state physicist, experimental physicist, and applied physicist. Theoretical physics is a discipline which doesn't typically require a lab, rather proof of a "theory" through rigorous mathematical explanation of phenomena.

Sadly, my daughter, who will be 13 in a couple of weeks, can navigate MS Office and Windows 8.1 far better than me. However my job doesn't require an aptitude for computers beyond simple Office programs. There is one CAD program I use to experiment with designs. Cellphone rooting? I'm flat out retarded.

^^^My word. I envy you your understanding of such matters. I mentioned the physics thing because long ago I wondered what happens to the energy used in the G3's double-tap. Does some of it, I wondered, set up heat or other stresses in the glass which might lead eventually to fracture? Murph will know, I thought. I'll ask. But then I thought, it might be moronic....after all, glass doors don't suddenly shatter after so many years of visitors knocking on them. So perhaps I'm not asking.
But now we know who to come to when we find ourselves puzzled about nature's workings. Expect many questions.

It's funny you ask because the iPhone is suffering from disfigurement despite Apple's claim it was thoroughly tested.

Now I don't forsee the G3 breaking under normal circumstances. The knock code is a good question. Energy is supplied to the phone but changes attributes. Remember - One of most basic laws of science is the Law of the Conservation of Energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be changed from one form to another.

The LG G3 continues to appear in the Internet paired up against other phones running the latest 805 and Adreno internals. In addition, this phone (Nexus 6) is running Android 5.0.

It's obvious that the G3 is going to lose a spec war since it was released shortly before phones came equipped with the 805 SoC. And the reviews are all about processing speed and OS. I like my G3, and it meets or exceeds my expectations. But comparing it to newly released devices that have 4 months on the G3 is lazy reporting. That's my rant, and this is the article.

I agree with the op. And this should make you feel better.

I just got my g3 yesterday and love it!

Before I have always been a note 3 fan and in fact pre-ordered a note 4 and used the note 4 for two weeks. And I Hated it! Why I returned it for a full refund.

For a flagship device it lagged. And didn't seem any different than my Note 3, besides the better screen. The heart rate sensor, and others seemed too gimmicky and the finger print scanner is worthless.

And the worse part is Touchwiz. I hate it with a passion

Anyways even with weaker specs on the g3 I find the g3 appears faster and smoother than the note 4.

And both phones have QHD screens but I prefer the g3. Colors in pictures may not be as vibrant as on the note 4, but this IMO is a good thing. On the note 4 the vibrant colors seen too fake and it is noticeable. The g3 screen and colors are more natural.

And I prefer the camera on the g3 than the note 4. G3 camera pic seems more natural and quality is more iPhone like. Which is a good thing bec I think the iPhone has a great camera. . Again if we're speaking specs, note 4 has 16 megapixel camera vs g3 13 megapixel I believe. But I think the camera and pica are way better on the g3

I am loving the G3 and think the overall experience is far superior on this the the note 4. Specs are just specs. It's how you use all that power is what matters

That's exactly why I said that user experience is far more valuable than some critic writing a slanted article. I think you proved my theory ;)

Dude they can compare it cause its still that good. It the only phone that has impressed me besides the note 4.

I won't disagree. You and I are able to recognize the whole package and appreciate the phone for what it is. But I'm not sure, moving forward, that the G3 will win any comparison given that the motor doesn't have as many ponies as the 805's. The G3 had a bigger reception upon release than the Nexus 6 and DROID Turbo.

From what I've heard some 805 powered handsets have issues with lag such as the note 4. My g3 has had no lag so far as I've seen. And the iphone does really good for a 1.4 ghz dual core so it's more about optimization than displacement.

The Note 4 lagging with the 805 is just a matter of Samsung not fully optimizing the processor to its potential. Also, their UI is quite heavy. Give them time before they get it right with a firmware update to see its full potential. Or you can always root and take matters into your own hands! :)

True enough. And besides people usually make out samsung devices to be alot more laggy than they actually are

Yep... I am, by no means, a Samsung fan.... But I was in a Best Buy and had some time to kill and played with a Note 4.... that phone's fine. I went into it with a personal challenge to play "Find The Wonky UI!" and I lost. While I might have some issues with their aesthetic choices with the UI, that device is a beast of a performer. And as much as it pains me to say this, when I walked away from it, a little voice in the back of my head was saying "pssst... yeah... that was a pretty nice phone dude..... why not give ol' Sammy another try and trade in for it?"
----
OK... yes... there's a lot of Phone X vs. LG G3 stuff. But I see Phone X vs Galaxy S5, Phone X vs HTC One M8,.... we're guilty of selection bias and the G3 articles stand out. But take it as a compliment. :) The G3 is such a good phone, it's become one of the benchmark devices that new stuff is compared with. If it was a POS, it wouldn't be on anyone's radar.

Yea i totally agree the phone dose run superb on 4.4.2 but about the slow release with updates from lg i dont think there messing about no more as the g3 is ment to be getting lollypop in Q4 of 2014 because lg has said that themselfs and going on how many updates my g3 has had since opening it and using it i 100% believe that we may be 1 of the first oem's to get the update.. Fingers crossed :-)

Man was lg slow on the update s me and my buddy both got the lg pro which was there flagship phone at the time thought we never get an update it finally came but it was to late I had traded it for the note 3

Coming from a previous iPhone 5S user and current Note 4 user
specs don't mean anything is the phone is not
1. Suit your nerds
2. Solid performance out the box
3. Fluid UI
I believe G3 fits the bill and works so smoothly I'm considering going to it from the Note 4

I think it's fair when you are comparing things in the proper context. If say you are showing off the difference between the G3's specs and newer released phone models like the Nexus or Droid Turbo.

If your putting the phone up against newer phones and using that as a way of demonstrating a phones superiority, then it's silly.

That's what I did. Went from note 3 to note 4, and had to return the note 4 and got the g3. . I am enjoying the overall experience far more than on the note 4. Touchwiz is the main culprit for the lag issues on note 4. and unfortunately, Touchwiz is everywhere in the UI.

The fact that the G3 can still hold it's own with the very latest handsets says a lot for it. It was very high spec'd on release, and the fact that LG pushed it quite far means it will likely remain competitive to one degree or another for the first year of it's life, and I'm sure many people will stick with it much longer than that. In fact, if you look at the article linked by the OP, the G3 is still very competitive with the Nexus 6. Higher ppi, better front camera, lighter, expandable storage... It may not be a fair fight as it's brand new vs a few months old, but it's certainly no fly v heavyweight contest.

I agree with others about spec's in general not being the be all and end all. Before my G3, I had a Blackberry Z30. It had a 1.7Ghz dual-core processor, which, even at release, was significantly below the equivalent top-end Android smartphones - but it never stuttered, multi-tasked brilliantly and was as fluid at gaming as anything I've played on the G3. Blackberry got this VERY right. They just managed to get most other things wrong.

Just came from Samsung Galaxy S4 to G3 couple of weeks ago and couldn't be happier - as for these "reporters" it's amazing how people eat their **** instead reading about possible purchases on user forums like this

Also had the gear 1 and now 360 and all I can say is I'm happy with both but the gear didn't have nearly the issues the 360 has /had and they give the 360/android wear a lot of passes
